11/3 - Roboto's "Pittsburgh Punk Rock Tour of the City" bike ride

On 11/3, the Mr. Roboto Project celebrates its 13th birthday and our one-year anniversary of our new space. Normally we celebrate our birthday with ADD Fest -- a show featuring 10 bands each playing 10 minute sets in rapid succession -- and this year is no different, but we are also adding a few other goodies to the list.

This year we are putting together a "Pgh Punk Rock Tour of the City" bike ride. Erok and I have been working together to make this ride a reality. We'll be meeting at Roboto (5106 Penn Ave) at 1pm on saturday 11/3. The ride will leave at 1:30.

We'll be rolling out to Wilkinsburg where we'll stop by the original Roboto locations, as well as several other former venues in Wilkinsburg. We're then hoping to swing by Rea Coffeehouse (home of the first ADD Fest) on Chatham's campus to check that out and then make our way to Oakland to see the former locations of other classic punk venues like The Decade. We'll end the ride at THEE classic pittsburgh punk rock venue -- The Electric Banana. Along the way we'll have some folks telling stories about these old venues, old bands, and other old bullshit. We intend to have a mobile sound system pumping the pgh punk rock you love.

Afterwards you are welcome to roll back to Roboto with us where from 5-7pm, we will be hosting a special edition of one of the "Pierogies vs..." dinners. $10 gets you all you can eat pierogies and some other yet unnamed goodies (all vegan).

Then after 7pm is the main event -- ADD FEST. 10 bands to be announced soon.

More details as they come together. Hope some of yinz can make it out for the ride.

Well, HELLO. That sounds amazing!

I predict a record number of brake less fixies in attendance.

helmets required, unless you have liberty spikes or a mohawk.

plus an assortment of facial hair in wide varieties.

Stinky bikepunx (usually crammed inside of the old roboto on a 90 degree day circle pitting), how I missed thee. Good memories. For real.

Former resident, not sure if I'm proud, but it was 11 years ago, and not many punks made it towards the top! Except for the squatters.(spelling?)

As long as we make it up to at least 121. Sooooo many good shows in that shit hole. Not to mention the scene defining bands that lived there.

also, Roboto has recently hooked up with Bike Pgh to get a business membership. we're going to be doing a few things with Bike Pgh throughout the coming year. there's a good chance we'll do another version of this ride again in the spring or during next year's Bike Fest. we're going to try to put together some other bike rides followed up with shows at Roboto. so if you can't make this one, don't worry...we're gonna be trying to do stuff like this on a more regular basis.

also also, working on a ridiculous flyer for this ride.

The bike ride was better when Andy was in the band.

sorry about that. apparently FB defaults my events to "friends only" at this point. changed it to "public". try it now.

the weather is looking nice for saturday. chilly, but dry and some sun.

erok and i did a run thru of the ride the other week. its a pretty easy ride overall with a few hills - one towards the beginning as we go thru Chatham, one in the middle going up Forbes from Wilkinsburg to Sq.Hill, and at the end taking us from Pitt up to the Electric Banana, none of which are too bad. because we have a lot of ground to cover, we're gonna try to crush out the connections between stops. its about 90+ minutes of riding with about 60 minutes or so of stops in between. add inefficiency and reality into the mix and we're looking at around a 3 hour tour.

then we'll head back to Roboto for "Pierogi vs ADD". $10 gets you all you can eat vegan pierogies. more details here:

Also, the artshow at Roboto this month is new photography by Adam Perella of women and their bikes. If you can't make it out on saturday, you should try to swing by Unblurred on friday.

thanks to those who came out. we had a really great ride. the sun didn't come out as much as we would've liked, but we kept moving and kept warm.

there were about 15 folks on the ride

we'll probably do another version of this again sometime in the spring, tho' next time we probably can't guarantee a session with Pgh legend Johnny Banana.
