The ride was a nice reward for waking early to sober up and force some food down the gullet.
The flurries were a nice touch, WPW should have those again next year.
Snow flurries, 33 degrees, and at least 100 riders left from REI around 11am this morning for the annual Wheelmen's New Years Day Icycle Bicycle ride. The snow cut the ride short, down to apx. 10 miles up the jail trail through town to west end, over the Clemente Bridge and back. Nice way to start the new year!

It wasn't too bad. It was great to be on the bike again. I am a bit of a baby when it comes to riding in cold weather so this was a nice excuse to ride.
The ride was great, but the aftermath was better. We had some friends over the next day, and there was the inevitable question, "what did you do for new year's?" responses like "ate, sat around, played x-box.." and my son told our friends "my dad and I took a 10 mile bike ride around the city. In a blizzard." Bam!! Loved it. Happy new year!
I blew my chain down by the Point, then realized I had forgotten my chain tool when I last repacked my tool bag.
Got to see the ride go by on the Jail Trail, as I was hikin' my sorry butt REI-wards. Looked like fun...
That's a shame, did you get left out in the wind by everyone? Damn, those WPW dudes are cutthroat. At least it didn't turn into Icycle Ride, Donner party version. As far as we know.
Did anyone get any photos of the ride? I would love to see them, if so.
I enjoyed the mild pace but next year remind me to wear twice as many layers.

I know Lou had a camera...
I also saw someone with an action cam mounted on their helmet.
That was Cycling Dan from REI/Settlers Ridge. Very nice guy. He posted video and pictures on his website: www.cyclingpa.com
