Advice for a potential wet mud filled ride.

I just purchased a new Scott SUB 40 to commute to work with, and I love it. I am also riding in a charity poker run on the GAP tomorrow from West Newton to Smithton Beach. Looks like rain is in the forecast. Last year it was a total washout, but my mountain bike managed it well...yes I had the skunk stripe when I was done...

So my decision is this: remove the fenders from the Scott, install them on the mountain bike and ride it OR just ride the Scott and hope the mud isn't to bad as trashing my new ride makes me queasy.

Thoughts or advice on cleaning the Scott? Am I over thinking this? The Scott is a "trail" bike.

I vote mtn bike. I hate that limestone crap when it gets wet. If possible go pick up at least a clip on tail fender for it today, or a quick release seat post rack with a solid plate on the rack, that would work too. And you could carry some junk.

Best bet is to ride someone else’s bike. That wet limestone muck is horrible on the drivetrain even with fenders, and a PIA to clean off the bike if you don’t do it the second you get home. I’d take the junkiest ride in your fleet. And that trail can become mashed potatoes when it’s wet too, so wider tires with reduced pressure will be preferred.

Thanks for the advice. The 16 year old mountain bike is looking better by the minute. I can trash it and have no worries.
