Oh, feel free to say hi and welcome him to the bicycling community at @AntonioBrown84
Antonio Brown, bike commuter
Not sure if you've all seen this, but it looks like we finally have a local pro athlete who rides a bike to work. Also, it's not like he's some bench sitter. It's Antonio f'n Brown! Yes, we know he's not wearing a helmet. Let's not focus too heavily on that at the moment. I want to welcome him into the bike community in Pittsburgh w/o coming out chastising him for not being the safest he can be.

Great video. I like the way it captures the feeling of riding around the city's trails.
Maybe getting smacked in the head repeatedly has built up brain calluses so a helmet is not necessary? (kidding)
I like the idea that it means that the only people biking are too poor to have a car or lost their license.
I know Dave Wannstedt rode a bike to the training facilities when he was here too. Wonder who else does.
Not sure who Antonio Brown is, but woohoo! Very cool videos.
Very cool!
But it looks like he’s riding in from Duquesne (?), not sure how many millionaires live out that way. But then again, I wouldn’t want you to know my route if I was him either.
I've seen Mike Tomlin riding on the S Side too (also not wearing a helmet)
I like that he looks happy while riding.
I know we aren't supposed to focus on the helmet but given that his most famous catch is this it's a little ironic.
I'm a huge #84 fan and my second thought after no helmet was dayummmmm
What would be truly cool is if he rode his bike to the 61C, racked the bike, rode down to Dippyville or thereabouts, and biked down to the Jail Trail and on over to Heinz Field.
And did that on a somewhat regular basis.
Marko82 - He is leaving from the Waterfront townhomes in Homestead. I bet he, like the rest of us, would like to see the Sandcastle connector finished! NFL muscles or not, riding 837 is ugly at best.
I wonder how many Steeler fans pass him everyday and are annoyed that he's "in the way" not knowing who he is.
sandcastle hates the steelers
rsprake++
i thought about topping the post gazette comments page on the 3' ft passing law with this video
does the love of the steelers outweigh their hatred for bikes? quite the pittsburgh conundrum
I think they would focus on the lack of helmet.
OTOH, just think of the good press for transit, as well as biking, that would be accomplished if he did 61C it to get past Sandcastle, 837, etc. Plus meet fans on the bus.
My friend Brian said this,
"Respect biker safety. The Superbowl may depend on it."
New bumper stickers?
If Brian will let us change it to "Respect bicyclists. The Superbowl may depend on it." I'm in for making stickers. Brian should make a T-shirt.
rsprake, that idea is "championship".
@erok "sandcastle hates the steelers
serious lol.
I wonder if the Steelers who bike -- like I said I have seen Tomlin out before -- would be willing to do a PSA for sharing the road? They do lots of community service, so this isn't too far fetched.
sarah_q for mayor! what a great idea!
Can you imagine the attendance (and, in all likelihood, chaos) at a Flock of Steelers?
@ Sarah
I like the idea of athletes doing something positive for the town.
I'm guessing, though, that the steelers have guidelines against charities that could alienate anyone.
And after all, all those comments written after any bicycle story are written by someone.
+1 on the PSA
I suspect the NFL's lawyers might object to using the word "Superbowl" on a sticker though. But "Respect cyclist safety. The Big Game may depend on it" doesn't really work.
How about "Respect cyclist safety. Pittsburgh needs a seventh ring." With a football next to it, for clarity.
Already wrote him a letter, [Edit] which included a map. He tweeted today saying he's looking for good routes and people to ride with. I directed him here.
cool, all around.
I can't believe the Steelers let him ride without a helmet.
You know, there is a chance that he normally rides with a helmet, but chose not to wear one for the movie. Just a thought. I wouldn't get too hung up over the helmet thing.
I was thinking the same thing. He probably didn't wear one just for the camera. Just so you see its him.
He should flock with us..
Yeah he should flock with us. And he should join the Tuesday rides.
I want to ride with Brown. Can we get Mike Wallace there too? I volunteer to ride sweep.
Definitely an excellent PR opportunity with local citizens.
Dude does need to get in the big ring though.
Helmets: dillweed #7 has to wear a helmet on his "bike". I'm guessing there may be something in the general contract after all that.
I would much rather see more people riding, even without helmets, then hear people say they are afraid because riding is dangerous.
Additionally, the difference in increased safety between a motorcycle helmet and a bicycle helmet are not comparable.
Riding without one for the movie makes sense. I wasn't accusing, just wondering what the Steelers Organzation's rule on that would be.
@Nick D
+1
@quizbot: he also needs to SLAM THAT STEM!
every real rider knows you can't get go fast without a slammed stem and jacked-up ass hatchet
I saw him leaving his house on Tuesday...but he was in his SUV.
way to crush our dreams.
Maybe he was driving to drop off a load of kids' bikes somewhere...
and he couldn't do it by bicycle?
I ride all the time probably do 2k miles a year but sometimes I do need to drive. Did we really think he didn't own a car. If someone posted every time I drove I would be annoyed.
marv, how dare you challenge bike utopia!
yeah that is pretty annoying, people posting on the message board every time Antonio Brown drives his car. ????
Bad publicity is better than none at all.
he did stop completely at a stop sign.
So our guy signed on until 2017, so we ought to be able to get him out on a ride, right?
Also I think cburch should try and get Brett Keisel out on a ride. Beard ride. Ladies too, beard up.
You knew it would be some primitive SUV. That is the vehicle of choice in our region. Gotta ride high and have as little control as possible. SUV it is!
Brett Keisel? Isn't that the Burger King?
Golden headgear with insignia in center? Check. White outfit? Check. BK = BK. Check. Q.E.D.
btw. i shaved. for real.
Shaved? I bet you have a 3 foot long beard instead of a 6 foot long one now.
btw. i shaved. for real.
Pictures or it didn't happen.
Careful - he never specified he was talking about his beard...
@cburch why so serious?
eating tots is serious business
He is actually smiling in this picture.
red beards ftw
red beards ftw
Yep.
If i ever decide to quit my current job.....
It's to grow a slightly reddish beard.
I miss my facial hair
