You should give that driver a gold star commendation.
"At least you tried..." moments
I had a great one today.
I bought a 25# bag of rice from lotus, and tied it to my bike, then bungee'd it.
It was secure and not moving, but it was awkward to ride, and only slightly better to walk. So I headed over to a bus stop, and went to put it on the rack. The rear of the bike was so heavy it would have caused the front end to fly up. and the whole thing would've fallen off.
There's a happy ending though! I was all ready to take the whole thing off and let the bus go while I tended to things and waited for the next one, but the driver told me to take the rice off and put the bike on the rack and get on the bus. I pointed at the green light he was sitting at, and he said, "never mind the light, we've got time." So I did.
I got on the bus and was all ready to pay, but he just waved me by, fairly amused at what had just happened.
But hey, at least I tried!
I think I will. I took record of the route number/time/etc so that I could do so.
If you don't mind me asking how much does a 25# bag of rice cost?
$20 and some change.
Cool, my sister gave me a rice steamer last month. I think I'm going to give her a bag of rice for her b-day as a gag next week.
if I may - send in the commendation, but omit the green light, I got time, skip the fare details - it would be a shame to get a good egg in trouble.
yeah, more of a "he was very patient and good natured while I struggled with all my groceries" kind of deal.
I'm glad to hear good transit stories here as well. And glad that worked out so well for you, RF.
@RF - maybe somewhat OT here. Again cool that the driver so accomodating for you. Alao cool that I see you bought jasmine rice. My favorite. It's way better than anything else IMO. Over the last several years since I found out they had bulk sizes of it, I have bought my share of 25# bags at Lotus Foods.
I actually prefer the longer-grained basmati, but I didn't see any right away, and jasmine is always a close second.
