There was nothing yesterday, will be riding down for lunch shortly though.
bike sharrows on penn in strip?!
urban jeff just posted this on facebook (sorry to steal yer thread, jeff!).
is it really true???
i'm too lazy to head to the strip, plus i was already there today.
apparently the DPW is putting them on AS WE TYPE.
Well, if they are there I will get a photo shortly.
awesome!
they're being painted between 32nd and 16th streets, about every 250 feet or so. pics are between 29th & 28th. no stripe, just the symbol.
WELL out of the door zone. As I was passing the workers I overheard one of them say, "lotta bikers on this road."
This stretch of Penn was always a fairly stress free ride for me, it's flat and I take the lane. The markings just back up my right to be there and I like it.
those are so pretty! in that last picture, i can see the mural on the side of the building i work in, which makes me happy.
also, i am going to e-mail 311 and thank the city for the sharrows.
what are they painted with? any idea?
this is pretty sweet. i was just out that way the other day with my biking-newbie girlfriend, and she was a bit skittish about taking the lane. hopefully, these will assuage her concerns about our right to be there.
and yeah, i really dig the arrow locations.
311 is a good call Rachel. I'll do the same.
My God, they're nowhere near the door zone! I want to kiss someone! I want to run right down there and find those DPW guys and
Uh. Ok, no. I'm just saying, awesome.
pucker up lyle....mwah
HiddenVariable, it's paint.
erok did you guys know this was happening today? this is a surprise! or maybe i have not been paying enough attention, which is possible..
haha. actually, the city just got the stencil this morning.
OH... you were telling me about this last week.. i remember now. hooray for the city for quick-movin' on the painting. glad they finally got the stencil.
next step is to lobby for brick paver sharrows on grant street
Good to see working the system sometimes works.
Yes this is awesome! Where can I find the 311 email address?

Brick paver bike markings would be so sweet!
maybe one of the bridges (16 or 31) is next... there really is no reason not to do the 31st... its practically a bike lane already
Sent a thank you.
Sent!
cool. just went down and looked at them. right now they are only 31->26.
one of the cool things about the placement is that it seems that most car tires straddle the sharrow.
here's to hoping they last longer than liberty's
What can I do to get these on N. Negley between Black St & Penn Ave?
I just sent 311 a thanks for the new paint and the Negley question.
"What can I do to get these on N. Negley between Black St & Penn Ave?"
we should really do this. that part of negley SUCKSSSSSS
when i first saw this thread i was wondering how everyone keeps finding out about this stuff before it goes in
Spoke with one of the crew (older guy around 50) as they were working down there today, cars whizzing by ... "these idiots don't even slow down for us out here, and they're supposed to in a construction zone" ... he definitely understood what we have to deal with on the road, and seemed to be happy to help out.
Just something to remember when you're out there in your car in a construction zone...those guys are out there all day dealing with familiar idiocy.
I enjoy this very much.
can i just say that this was an awesome surprise after being out of pittsburgh for a week?! good job y'all.
I just sent a 311 thank you. Thanks to everyone who worked on making this happen!
New markings have been painted to as far as 18th street, I didn't ride down far enough to see how far they go.
They went as far as 16th when I rode in this morn I believe.
nice. how were they thru the "busy" section of Penn, like around Stan's, 'nat
They get more frequent and seem to be painted at each intersection. I didn't pay too much attention though.
