Bike Volunteer needed for Arthritis Walk & BikePGH outreach opportunity

Hello all,

The Arthritis Foundation needs a bike marshal for their annual Arthritis Walk. Basically, someone to ride very slowly and lead the walkers along the course.

I've done projects with them through AmeriCorps, and they offered the spot to me, but I'll be out of town that weekend, so I offered to re-post here.

The walk takes place on Saturday, June 4th along the Three Rivers Heritage Trail, starting at the Southside Works. It begins at 10:00 am and the volunteer would need to arrive by 9:30 am. More info on the walk here: http://arthritiswalkpgh.kintera.org

Additionally, they've invited BikePGH to have a table at their event, free of charge. Might be a good outreach opportunity, as one of the event's goals is to "get people moving."

If you are interested, please contact Volunteer Coordinator Justin Lamorella at 412-566-1645 ext. 1108 or jlamorella@arthritis.org

Thanks!

I won't be able to do this, but have ridden lead bicycle for races before in Schenley. If done right, you don't get too far ahead and inform what usually are appeciative others what is following you. People taking up the whole trail, those with unruly dogs, etc. may need some encouragement to make room.

This could be very different with a walk though- at least in my mind, I am not sure that would generate the same respect from pedestrians that a running race would.
