bikefest bike swap

I missed the bike swap last year during bikefest, and I don't see one listed on the calender for this year.

is anyone interested in organizing with me on this? I've lots of parts and stuff to sell.

I don't believe there was one last year. The calendar for this year hasn't really been developed yet, but we have heard through the grapevine that there might be a bike swap at the new indoor mt. bike park in Homewood.

Dan, Hyla, and I had talked about integrating a casual bike swap into Try-A-Bike. However, I don't think a decision was made.

I know that a few years ago the bikeswap was held in Leslie Pool in Lawrenceville. There were other Bikefest events there as well, so maybe bikepgh had some agreement with the county for using that space.

Is there a space this year where bikefest is aggregating different activities, and would it be suitable for a bikeswap?

And if anyone is interested in having a table to sell stuff, please post here so we can see how big or small this might be.

^ The Leslie Park event was was held by the people who do "I Made it Market." I think they called it something like "I Made It, Bike Themed Market." I know the 2 women who ran it. Two years ago, I changed my BikeFest Ride (called 12 Bridges, Three Rivers, Twenty-One miles) so it would end at the Pool. It was a great place to finish.

How about Try-A-Bike and the swap happen at PedalPGH on Sunday, August 5th. Try-A-Bike would be fund with the roads we have closed down from 6am to 1pm. No cars will be allowed on 26th St to East Carson, East Carson to the Birmingham Bridge, and the entire bridge. It all starts and ends at the Finish Line Festival at the big parking lot behind REI in the SSide Works. We'd be happy to make room for the swap. Let me know.

Seth, try-a-bike was basically letting other people ride your bike. As such, I'm not sure try-a-bike would work with such a big group that you would have during PP. But I’ll let others with more interesting (and $) bikes decide if that would be ok.

OTOH, I can see some bike shops willing to do something similar since it might be a way to sell some new models (I assume they would have insurance if a bike got damaged).

Marko is right. With the volume of people at PedalPGH, Try a Bike during Pedal PGH would be an absolute mess without some serious volunteer effort.

I think that would be a great place to do a swap. As for try-a-bike, I would still want to keep it at the oval. I wouldn't want to bring my bike for lending at such a big event as pedalpgh

I'm tempted to agree. One of the main reasons Try-a-Bike worked so well was because it was a little harder to get to. You had to purposely go to it, and once there, there was little else to do but try 45 different sets of wheels. I'm not sure the just-moseying-in crowd would be the right audience.
