Oakland Planning and Development or OBID were thinking of pulling a group together for Oakland. They may have. I lost track. There's also a group looking at needs/issues/opportunities in the near east suburban communities - the Braddock Avenue corridor communities and a little east of that. I have a contact there, but can't remember the details at the moment. Outside Allegheny County, Westmoreland County, Indiana Borough, New Brighton and Cranberry all have groups, or have had groups that worked on their B/P Plans. Connellsville too. The Westmoreland County group meets next Wednesday, the 11th.

@byogman "Kinda weird there isn’t one for oakland, squirrel hill, or shadyside." The only reason they exist in the other neighborhoods is that a few people decided to form them - there's not really anything official about it. Hopefully we'll start to see more pop up.

Oakland green team seems to concern themselves with cycling related stuff, or at least a meeting was posted on the board at some point (I could be wrong about this). http://www.opdc.org/programs-services/community/oakland-green-team/ They have links to the 'rock alley' project, a proposed Bicycle and Pedestrian Path connecting the bluff to EFT. Also from the page: Bike happenings, including new bike infrastructure linking Oakland to Schenley Park, proposed improvements to the Joncaire Street steps, and changes for the upcoming bike share Next Meeting: Thursday, August 21st, 6pm, The Oakland Career Center, 294 Semple Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15213.

Good to hear about Oakland. Now, squirrel hill folks, so, I'm plugged into exactly nothing (but these boards) so I'd be a terrible leader, but would be interested in being part of such a group as long as it met some time other than Friday night/Saturday during the day. Who else?

I believe @rsprake is, or at least was, involved in the Braddock-corridor group. I don't recall having heard anything about it recently, but I might have just not been paying attention. @byogman, you might try contacting one of your neighbourhood groups (The only one I know of is Squirrel Hill Urban Coalition, but I haven't lived over there in years...) to see if they'd be interested in putting together a group. I know the Northside group is based out of the NS Leadership Coalition, while the South Hills group is organized by Economic Development South, a multi-boro community-and-economic development NPO. Both the neighbourhood group Lawrenceville United and the business coalition Lawrenceville Corp are involved in the LVBPC. Alternatively, given the number of people who walk to shul, not to mention during the rest of the week, is there some sort of cross-temple organization of rabbis that might be interested in helping put something like this together for the protection of all their congregations' members?

I thought I posted here about Ross's traffic advisory committee, but I don't see it. There's a half a sentence in today's PG North about it. OK, here goes again: "...[Ross Twp] residents are also needed to fill an opening on the Girty's Run Joint Sewer Authority board, and to serve on the township's new traffic advisory committee. To apply, contact township manager Doug Sample, 412-931-7655." (Those last four digits might be 7055.)

There are currently 7 neighborhood bike/ped groups -- - Northside - Lawrenceville - Millvale - Eastern Suburbs - South Hills - Oakland - ARTEZ's Allegheny Rivertowns (Sharpsburg, Shaler, Millvale, O'hara, Etna, Aspinwall, Blawnox) -- and counting! You can see the list on http://localhost/get_involved/advocate/ Will is right, the reason these committees have sprung up is because a group of residents want to start advocating for change in their neighborhood. BikePGH gives our experience and guidance with getting the committee started and focusing on their issues, but they're entirely resident-driven. If anyone is interested in pursuing one for their neighborhood, or getting involved in one of those 7, please reach out.

I would also toss ACTA (Airport Corridor Transit Association) in among this group for the West, although they do have a broader agenda. ACTA are the ones responsible for getting bikes racks, a fix-it station, and sharrows up from the Montour Trail included in the $mill of work of the big PAT bus hub in Robinson. Lynn Manion is a big advocate of transportation biking, more-so even than most of the bike "clubs", who seem to be primarily car-rackers.

the following is from @erok: For anyone who is looking to make their neighborhood bike/ped committee better, or someone interested in starting their own. ------------------------------------------------------------- Over the past several years, there has been a surge in the number of neighborhood-specific bicycle and pedestrian committees, creating a diverse group of mini-Bike Pittsburghs around the city. Some have been together for a number of years, while others are in the beginning stages of organizing. There has been a growing interest within these groups to connect with one another to learn what’s been successful, what hasn’t worked out so well, and what can be accomplished with collective action. It’s time to get together to discuss best practices, and share knowledge to make our grassroots advocacy as effective as possible. At the first meeting, we’d like to leave the agenda fairly open to things that you want to discuss, so please come prepared with some topics to explore. ***If you plan on attending, please take a moment to RSVP by filling out this brief survey.*** http://goo.gl/forms/Fmb67DR9eE An RSVP isn’t necessary for attendance, but it will help make sure that we have a proper sized room for the event.* All-neighborhood Bike/Ped Committee Meeting Wednesday, February 25 2015 6pm-8pm Oakland Career Center Building 294 Semple Street Pittsburgh, PA 15213 Questions? Eric Boerer, BikePGH Advocacy Director eric@bikepgh.org 412.325.4334 *Please note that if we have a huge response, we may need to change locations
