bikes for sale - surly cross-check, cannondale m300

ok, time for a little garage cleaning... I thought I'd post these here before I tried craigslist.

58cm Surly Cross-Check, $600 obo

Argh - I hate to see this one go, my daily commuter and fun bike for the past 3 years (aside from the winter). It's mostly stock, I swapped the front crank with a 105 triple (30-39-50). The rear wheel (Mavic A319) is brand new (~a few hundred miles) as well as the cassette (11-25) and chain. I have SPD pedals on there now but I can put on a set of platforms if needed.

I might also be interested in a trade for a road bike. I debated using this as a road bike but now that I'm riding a 60cm LHT the 58cm CC just feels a bit small.

16" Cannondale M300SE, $150 obo

This is my wife's old bike, just a basic non-suspension MTB, 21 speed Shimano. It's really too small for her and it probably hasn't been ridden more than 10 times, so it looks almost new. I'm guessing it's the 1997 model. Has a relatively new set of Michelin City tires on it, I still have the original knobbies if you want them.

I'm possibly interested in the Cannondale for my daughter, who's headed off to college. I suspect it might be small for her, since she's 5'8" and a smidge, but OTOH it may not get a lot of use, and size might not matter for the occasional sub-two-mile jaunt around town. Just don't know yet.

Salty,

What is ETT of your Surly?

@mikhail - assuming they haven't changed the geometry (i don't believe they have but i'm not positive of that - fwiw, i bought the bike new in Aug. 2009 but i believe it may be a 2008 model), this says 580mm: http://surlybikes.com/bikes/cross_check#geometry

For reference, I'm 6'3" and the bike might be a little small for me, although I guess technically cross frames are supposed to be a little smaller than road frames. You can see, it's not like I have a huge amount of seatpost showing.

@stu - you're welcome to take the bike home for an extended test ride. My wife is couple inches taller than that so it might be ok.

BTW, while doing some googling I noticed that Shimano had a recall for Atlus cranks in 1997, but I confirmed this bike does *not* have the affected crank which were FC-CT90, this bike has FC-CT92 (the model number is stamped on the crank arm).

Well, I am 182 cm (6'0") and 580 is too big for me. 565 is ideal, 570 is OK, 575 is already too long. Sorry.

@salty - Sent you a PM.

The Cross-Check is sold (sniff) but the Cannondale is still available (also sniff).

I just put a brand new chain on it (Stu's daughter had an issue with it that might have cost me the sale there) but otherwise it seems to ride fine to me.

I liked the Cannondale, even if my daughter didn't. I rode it about 20 miles, all on-road, and took it on a couple bus rides.
