blocked bike racks

I arrived at the City-County Building around 10:45 this morning to find this:

Salvation Army event at City-County Bldg

Nice words to the right people accomplished nothing. I was in too much of a hurry to argue, and realized I was going to get nowhere, so used the last slot available at the only other rack nearby, and took some heat for trying to do that.

Grrr, I am not really fond of the Salvation Army already, but their pre-emption of the rack really rankled me, especially their setting up the sound board *right in it*.

The Regional Enterprise Tower construction area has blocked a bike rack for a couple of weeks now. This would be a bigger issue in summertime, I guess.

Ross Park Mall, L.L. Bean, Easter Sunday 2013. First of all, it's a stupid toaster rack. Second of all, it's smack against the wall, so there's no way you can properly use it. Third, the patio chairs on display entirely block it. LLBean-bike-rack-Ross-Park-Mall Ross Park Mall does have a couple of decent racks, permanently mounted, if you can manage to find them. They're between Sears and Nordstrom. Here's a quick snapshot: Tiny-bike-rack-between-Sears-and-Nordstrom

No pics, but the East Liberty Home Depot used to have a (crappy) rack, just behind (if I recall correctly) a display of those outdoor barbecue thingies (grills?). Complete with a somewhat non-plussed sales person guarding the whole installation. More recently they installed some sort of sales shed in that space. So no rack that I could find. On the plus side they didn't seem to care when I walked my bike into the store and shopped like anyone else. The aisles are certainly wide enough... In retrospect you could probably just cycle around the store though I expect that one of the staff might have intervened.

Ahlir, they moved the rack by the handicapped parking in the parking lot. Not as nice because before there was overhead protection Market District Shadyside is currently undergoing renovation or something so all their racks are gone at the moment

Market District Shadyside still has two racks out in front by the bus stop, but they're not covered. (One of them has an abandoned bike u-locked to it. It lasted for many months there before somebody finally swiped the wheels and seat.)

Rei is doing it wrong, you can get twice as many bikes on these racks if they were not pushed up against the windows. Will someone tell them to rotate these racks 90 degrees.

I'll have to get a pic but, the pizza place at the corner of Forbes and Braddock at Frick Park has a sign tied to the bike racks. It's annoying to see but it probably won't piss me off enough until I see it being used this spring/summer. It definitely will have to go.

I am happy to report that the Regional Enterprise Tower racks shown as blocked above are again available.

@Ahlir - Reminds me of a day last summer when I was at Lowe's and a guy came into the store riding his bike. He went the entire width of the store, turned right and went out the automatic doors at the other end. Must have realized he forgot his wallet! Jim
