board issues / spam filter

I've tried 3 different pcs and I can only post from my phone. When I post to a thread it tells me the the topic is closed. I've loges out and in, restarted the browser, same.

In the past week, I've had 2 of my posts fail to show up, I assume due to being marked as spam. And, I just saw netviln say the same thing in another thread.

In my case, the first post never showed up AFAIK. The second post, I reposted it 3 times. The last time I removed the link and it went through.

Seems like there should be a better way to prevent mistaken spam for regular posters. Does the software take that into account? A few months ago I got reset to "bossanova" (as did a lot of other frequent posters) - I don't really care unless it's contributing to this problem.

I was able to post eight links in this thread by simply removing the "http://" from the address.

hmmmm. thanks for letting me know about this. yeah, it's an issue that i've been trying to understand and deal with. the spam filter doesn't seem to "learn" very well.

rather, it doesn't seem to learn good behavior very well.

it seems testy. like at times it will let everything thru, then it will block some stuff. considering how many fake email accounts sign up to this, it's doing something.

i wish i had a better solution, but sloaps' idea might be good.

let me know personally if this happens, i can "unspam" anything, and i do see some of the false positives that the system found

I found that first posting an item without links, then editing it to insert the links gets around the problem.

Also, I believe the problem is cookie-related. Try closing your browser then starting it up again.

erok - does the account "level" have any effect? there are a lot of "regulars" who have been showing as "bossanova" for a few months.

if i were writing it, i'd certainly factor that in. assuming people's accounts aren't getting broken into (which I don't think is a real issue here?), it's certainly a good indicator.

looking at the posts that were marked as spam, all from regular posters btw, they all had the http:// link involved except for i think one

The issues with posting / getting the message "This topic is closed" came from some updates made to the forums yesterday. I've just tested in Internet Explorer 7&8 and Firefox, Chrome and Safari on both Windows & Mac, and they're back on track now.
