Britsburgh Pittsburgh Official Tweed Ride

September 12, 2015, 2:00 pm, Starting point, Highland Park Entry Garden, N. Highland Avenue and Reservoir Drive. Ending at Pipers Pub, 1828 E. Carson Street. For six days this September, Pittsburgh is going to be transformed into “Britsburgh,” a six-day event throughout the city to celebrate the many connections between Greater Pittsburgh and Great Britain. 412 Flock! is honored to be partnering with Britsburgh & helping the festivities by adding some fun on two wheels - and TWEED! Description: The Tweed Ride will be a casual, social, slow paced bicycle ride of approximately 10+ miles, around 2 hours, with 2 rest stops at points of interest relevant to the Britsburgh theme. The ride will be assisted by members of the non-profit “412 Flock”, a Pittsburgh bicycling advocacy organization (501c designation in process). The ride will take place on public streets, we will stay together and ride as a group, no one will be “dropped”, and the group will ride observing applicable traffic laws. For individuals who may not be accustomed to riding on public roads, we would hope that would not discourage you, as there will be numerous experienced cyclists riding as part of the group to provide assistance and cues as to safe riding, although the decision to ride is entirely up to the individual. Clothing fitting the Tweed theme is encouraged but not at all required. Vintage bikes as well are encouraged but not required. Bikes should be in good working condition, and clothing should be chosen so as to not affect safe operation of the bicycle. There will be no support vehicle, although individuals with basic repair equipment and mechanical knowledge will be able to assist with minor mechanical occurrences such as flat tires and the like. The intent is for fun, to ride enjoyably in the company of others. Perspiration is not required. The Pittsburgh Tweed Ride is not affiliated with any other similarly named or themed events. We realize that this event is on the same day as the Memorial Ride out in Beaver County, although later in the afternoon. Unfortunately, by the time the parties involved found out the potential conflict, the gears for both events were too much in motion to change course due to the various participants. We would hope that if all possible, people would participate in both, but we certainly don't want to draw energy away from that event. Later in the week we will be publicizing the route, if someone cannot make the 2:00 pm start, there will be 2 rest stops for which we will indicate approximate arrival times, so there will be opportunity to join in at those locations. Event Cost: $5 suggested donation (toward non-profit “412 Flock”) Event Registration: RSVP to this FB event, https://www.facebook.com/events/1022528454432327/ and/or email: 412Flockpgh@gmail.com. Specify “Pgh Tweed Ride” in the subject line.

This would be a great time to dig out my old Raleigh, complete with its "Made in England" badge, but alas, it hasn't moved in three years, and hasn't moved well in four or more.

Here is the outline for the event. Anyone with conflicts that may prevent them from making the start for whatever reason is welcome to join in the ride at either rest stop, #1 at the Robert Burns statue, Phipps Conservatory at approximately 3:00 pm, or #2 at Point State Park, around 4:00 pm, or even at Pipers Pub, the finish, to join the festivities. Ride cue sheets (pdf format) will be available on the facebook page. I don't know how to place pdf's here so they are available to non-FB people.

ALSO anyone who isn't intent on going to the finish immediately at Pipers Pub is welcome to segue (NOT Segway!) neatly into the Historical City Bike Tour leaving from Firstside Park at 4:00 pm (listed on the Bike Pgh! events calendar). Just let one of the escorts know you are breaking off. You would, however, not be on hand for the awards mentioned on the outline.

Anyone know if there's a drinking fountain in Point State Park anywhere? Didn't someone do a drinking fountain map somewhere?

"Anyone know if there’s a drinking fountain in Point State Park anywhere? " Yes...I just used it on Monday, it's near the bathrooms.

There's water fountains at point state park on the patio above the main fountain. (Probably others too?)
