Build Question - Fenders

Ok guys Im building a bike from a what I think it is 70's 10 speed frame (ventura) and one of the goals I have is to put fenders on the bike.

(you can find pics and better description of the bike over at fatguyorangebike.blogspot.com)

I don't think that putting fenders on a bike this will be much of a problem but since it is an older bike (i.e. 27 inch wheel) I wanted to throw this out there and see what some of the more experienced builders had to say.

Also the bike originally had 27" x 1 1/4" tires and I was hoping I could put the 27" x 1 3/8" cyclo-cross tires that I have found.

Thanks in advance for everything.

I love the color you selected. :)

Fitting fenders should not be a problem, but if you go with the plastic ones like Planet Bike or Zefal, shitcan the wire stays they come with and hand-make some full-wrap stays from aluminum bar stock, like 1/8" x 1/2" (Home Depot). Aluminum is super easy to work with. I hate the flimsy rattly temporary feel of the ones they come with.

Also, the Bicycle Song video you linked to is the awesomest thing ever. One guy is actually flying a full-on Flock of Seagulls do.

Thanks Edmond,

Actually Im hoping for metal ones either in black or I will make them black.

Still not totally sold on the color. I'm gonna let it sit a week and see if it grows on me.

+1 on color choice.

OHMYGOODNESS you could add UV sensitive paint to it and then shine UV light on yourself at night for THE AWESOMEST RAVE BIKE EVER. Because anything that glows that color orange would have super powers of Visibility and Invincibility that cannot be thwarted by Penn Hills Drivers.

I have no practical advice on fenders, just pointless babbles on shininess :D

Drive the UV lights from a front-wheel dynamo hub, and you'll be a self-contained Icon of Shiny.

+1 for the rave reference

however I doubt anything could thwart Penn Hills Drives. If my giant self on the Big Orange Beast is effectively invisable (which by the number of drivers who cant see me I can only assume is the way it is) then I'm pretty sure that only naked girl or a 6-pack of Bud would make it so they could see me.

Reddan,

The dynamo hub itself is a good Idea, I havent ordered the wheels yet (or anything else, part of me wants to build the bike back up using only free-ride, and part of me wants to get new parts since i am a huge heavy guy and would rather depend on newer parts.)
