can anyone explain what's going on here?

or am i just stupid.

I saw this car downtown today. he had the license plate on the back of that wood thing (just out of the picture). There was also a family inside, and i imagined how dreadful it must be to be that guys kids. imagine getting picked up from school in that.

i still can't figure out what is going on? is it to keep people from getting too close to him? To carry things? Parallel parking must be next to impossible.

HELP????

Looks like an improvised means to carry a wheelchair or scooter to me, kind of like this thing:

but that thing has a ramp. and the car above has one on the front too. also, there's no tiedowns

When the levy breaks, where ya gonna run?

That can't be legal because of how far it sticks out. Also, the licence plate is covered up.

When you hit a cyclist, they fold up neatly into the front tray, rather than sliding messily across your hood.

The rear tray is probably to carry the bike, after you stop the car and tuck the limbs neatly in the front.

slap some rails on them boxes and you got a mobile skate park...

They are also used for hauling deer out of the woods although that car is pretty unsuited to that. Notice he has one on the front as well, in addition to the modd-ed mirrors.

As to how far the rear one sticks out, you might have a case that it's wider than the car but it doesn't appear to be much deeper than a lot of rear trunk racks for bikes.

That's very interesting.

maybe they had a problem with U turns and REALLY

wanted to shorten their turning radius.

It's the car equivalent of a basket and a rear rack.

i didn't notice the mod rear views. the license plate wasn't covered up, it was bolted to the back of the wood plank. i just didn't get it in the photo due to my haste.

thanks for humoring me everyone. i'm still wondering what's going on

You wouldn't be able to make it up canton ave in that thing.

I want to know how those things attach!

I could see them being used for cargo. There is a chain in the back one, and Crown Vic's trunks are deep vertically but very shallow horizontally (I have probably spent over 20 hours in various Crown Vic trunks).

I'll throw it up on PittSpeed. I am sure someone has seen it before.
