Wow.
I like the comment "In cities, motorists are a danger to pedestrians. Outside cities, they are a danger to themselves." Obviously a bit of a generalization but you'd think it would provide some justification for improving ped and bike safety.
that is an amazing amount of data, overwhelming.

The center of Nevada looks safe...
Wow
wow, the AAA just released this report on the cost of car crashes to cities. according to FHWA, in 2009 dollars, the cost of a single motor vehicle fatality is $6,000,000.
According to the report, the pittsburgh metro spends $3.1 BILLION on car crashes, or $1,309 per person.
This may even be low, because they said that the typical injury costs $126,000. when i was hit by a car, and "only" broke my leg, the medical costs were almost $90K alone.
also, there are 2 cyclist deaths in the west end that i don't remember hearing about at all
the three on butler st were aged 80, 79, and 70.
hmm, actually i guess that's not the west end, it looks like mckees rocks.
I think it's incomplete. Maybe edmonds59 remembers, back in about 2007 there were two teen boys who flew their car over a big hummock in the road somewhere off of Campbells Run Road (on a road posted 25) and wrapped themselves around a tree. It was well prior to my starting at FedEx in '09, so should be in this report, but I don't see it.
i'm sure they are missing a lot of data, I can't imagine collecting it.
When I saw this thread I though it was a local Pittsburgh Map.
Hrm... It would be interesting to see in map-form the areas where people have had bike-accidents here in the city (car related, bad street signage, or from bad-shitty roads), or where people have been jumped by jerk-kids, to see visually if there are areas showing the greatest danger/patterns to watch out for...
Just an idea, wonder what would that look like
you can zoom in, it's not a static map.
