Very cool. It is such a simple design.
check out this trailer
anyone seen this before? tried it out?
seems pretty ingenious, though it may not carry as much as easily as a BOB. i like it's simplicity, and that the wheel can double as a spare wheel!

one almost thinks one could build one on one's own
I really like this design. The weigh mostly rests on the over the axle of the trailer, rather than on the "tongue" of the trailer on the BOB.
I think a self made version of this would be relatively easy to do. The hardest part would be the connection with your bike. It might be worth buying hitch hardware and fabbing up the rest.
I think Nashbar sells the hardware for their B.O.B. knockoff separately.
Travelling with my BOB, I often wished the BOB had a bigger wheel, like this trailer.

i like that it's just a pair of any panniers on the back. no proprietary stuff. you could also pack a spare tire in the spokes of that rear wheel without really noticing it
Have you seen their website? The other option is a big mesh sling on each side with drybags inside. No need to install a rack, and keeps the weight low to prevent swaying.
Agree with Mick, bob is no good for any tree type thing you have to cross that is over 8" in diameter.
The reason I did racks and panniers on the great
divide was cause I didnt want to pay to ship a bob
home too. This would be like shipping a wheel instead of shipping a bike.
looks like you could make your own pretty simply. front fork, rack, and either a few bolts or welds to hold it together.
I may do this.
After further inspection, it looks like they've discontinued the sling bags in favor of a rack and pannier mounts.
I'm thinking it might be harder than it looks to get it stiff enough with a rack and fork. Needs some triangulation back there. Perhaps some struts to the fork crown would help.
Steevo: "bob is no good for any tree type thing you have to cross that is over 8" in diameter."
Going over railroad tracks when you are not at a crossing with a BOB is slow and difficult. Scary, even. It's like being tied to the tracks until you get the rent together.
Seems to me, they could easily make a 26/27/700 wheel version with less fuss than for their shock absorber model.

Very nice. I like the idea that you've got a spare wheel with you. Make that a spare front wheel since the spacing is 100mm.
heck i've got a rack that i hardly use, all i need is an old fork and a spare wheel and i'll give it a go next week.
too bad rebar is so danged heavy, i've got plenty of that lying around from the house we've been building the last year and a half. (which is 90% concrete)
I was thinking about doing this too, but I was thinking steel tubing, a mix of 1/2 round and 1" square to try to reduce weight.
The only thing I am unsure of, is the hitch mount to the bike. I am thinking a heim joint and tractor pin so its easily removable.
I have been looking at this design. You can work it out with a couple of forks and most of a head tube from an old bike. Use the head tube as the pivot. You can use the drop outs from the old bike to attach it to the bike. It's real simple, have to weld it though. I have all that stuff.
funny, i was just thinking about this trailer again today.

I think it has potential, I like that it is lite, and can probably be made to fold into some kind of bag for transport.
I've seen this before and had the same conclusion, I'll bet a DIY version wouldn't be hard.
I'd be down to try. I always seem to have to make ten of anything I build though.
Instead of the head tube, use a heim joint. It will be a lot lighter and it will also allow movement on 3-axes.
