Come ride in the woods with me on Catsual Friday!

my design studio's weekly ride is actually weekly now. Facebook event

for the non-facebooky:

Casual group mountain bike ride in Frick. No-drop, all skill levels, relaxed wind-down for the week. Riding with all skill levels is a great way to learn new skills or take it easy and work on perfecting existing ones. Meet at the Blue Slide playground (Beechwood and Nichols) at 6:15. Ride starts at 6:30

Please note: this ride will be primarily on the single track mountain bike trails in frick, not the gravel jogging paths. we will be riding some of the more advanced trails, but nothing that has mandatory advanced features.

Are new faces welcome too? I think I can make it. I've been mountain biking at frick a few times but don't know the trails well enough to link together a good ride. It would be nice to learn more of what's there.

It rained pretty heavily last night and this morning in Oakland, I'm not sure if the same occurred in Sq Hill? What's the general consensus on "too wet"?

Last time I went out and it was damp, I ate it on that wooden bridge below the Braddock trail. They are REALLY slippery if they get slightly wet!

The ride is still on and very much open to new folks. If the trails are still too wet to responsibly ride when we get there I'll either cancel or postpone.

the ride has been postponed till tomorrow afternoon due to the big ass thunderstorm working its way toward us right now!

we will be meeting at my house and car pooling out to bavington which has some of the flowiest singletrack around here. its super fun and not at all technical so its perfect for all skill levels.

And now there's no rain. Figures. Bavington will be fun anyway! Come ride tomorrow!

Yeah, that storm was making a bee-line for the city, and then detoured up 28 once it passed 79.

I'll be at the park anyways, I need to figure out how to tune this new Fox fork I got my paws on.

slowly and carefully. start with the base tune and adjust 2 clicks at a time. find a little section of trail you dont mind hikih and ride it over and over while tuning.

Thanks for the tips, cburch. I ran out of daylight/it started raining, so I had to cut my tuning session short. It's set at the default right now as per the Fox manual, and it feels like CLOUDS! The OEM Suntour SR fork is garbage in comparison (rebound damping, what?). I also lost ~2 lbs off the bike.

I'll have to put more time into it, though I have a different set of tires and wheels lined up too, which will probably change the damping characteristics necessary. Hopefully I'll shed another 6 lbs there too. Not that I can feel the difference when riding, it just makes it easier for me to pickup the bike when I crash... :)

Dropping 6 pounds of rotational weight will make the bike feel like a freaking rocket ship. you wont even believe its the same bike.
