Commuter light: NiteRider MiNewT Mini-USB

Just ran across this one...battery pack that can be recharged from a USB port, and comes with helmet mount kit.

Light output appears to be midway between low and high settings on the MiNewt X2, and runtime is 3 hours, with 4:30 charge time. Looks pretty sweet, if a little pricey.

If anyone has used one, I'd be curious to hear about real-world performance.

rad idea with the USB, but I was hoping for a smaller battery pack and the attachment mech. the thing that's keeping me from buying one of these puppies is the ease (or seemingly the lack of ease) of swapping this from bike to bike.

Light and Motion needs to do something similar with the Vega, which has the battery pack integrated into the light.

The attachment mech is nice, actually; heavy elastomer ring (AKA rubber band) on the light housing for attachment to bars, Velcro strap on the battery pack; takes about 15 seconds to swap from one bike to another, and can be repositioned easily.

I don't think the attachment via rubber band would be good for serious offroad use, as I'd expect it to get jarred out of position with enough impact, but it's rock-solid on Pittsburgh pavement.

Caveat: this is based on my experience w/ the regular MiNewxt X2; pix of the Mini look like they use the same system, but I haven't seen one in the flesh yet.

I bought one of these at Interbike. I just installed it yesterday, but i think its great! It puts off a lot of light for having a pretty small footprint. The battery pack isn't too instusive, i mounted mine on the bottom of my stem. It is very easy to take on and off, whether it be for security reasons or switching bikes. I'm at a computer all day, so the usb charging is what got me.

Side note: Dan, can you send me a link to your route to East Liverpool? I'll be riding there for thanksgiving with the grandparents. thx

Justin, you've got a PM. (Just 'cause I wanted to use the new feature :-))

I'd be interested in doing a side-by-side with the MiNewt Mini and my X2, if the chance arises.
