Crush the Commonwealth 2018

Wanted to see how many people are considering riding this year. I have a group of 3-5 who are planning to ride, with one guy who has done it before. This year is an even year, so it will depart from the Liberty Bell in Philly at 5am on Friday, April 27. I've found old Ridewithgps maps for this, but can only seem to find the Eastbound route (here). If anyone has a good Westbound file, please post here, as well. For others like me preparing for the first time, this blog post seems very informative and helpful.   Cheers, Erik

I believe I’m one of those 3-5 people. I found a few westbound routes on Ride with GPS. This is one of the most recent and comprehensive. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/26560514

I'm in again with my friend, Adam - assuming I can gain a little fitness by 4/26. Not here to win it, so anything under 48 hours is the goal.

I've seen this ride discussed in this forum for the past several years.  It seems that one essentially has a long weekend to complete it.  Is this impression accurate?

It's a race, but you have however long it takes. Some people take it "easy."

[smartasshaton] Shawn,   20 hours is under 40 hours and it's good goal!   :) [/smartasshatoff]   Good luck to all you guys!

Thanks for the explanation of the "rules."  I might do it, just for the experience (sounds like a joke from the '70s) but I'll be racing myself.

@fultonco - I agree. My first time, I carried a tent and finished in 60 hours. Last year, I was shooting for under 40 hours with little-to-no sleep when I threw in the towel after getting stuck in 1am thunderstorm.

Yes Shawn, I've got nothing to prove except that I can still do this shit.  All the best.

Excellent training opportunities begin this weekend. The Pittsburgh Randonneurs begin their spring ultra-distance series Sat. 3/17 @ 9AM with a 100k Populaire. Check the rest of the schedule; 200, 300, and 400k Brevets will all be run before CTC this year. Info & registration here: http://pittsburghrandonneurs.com/event/03-17-2018-spring-populaire/

Anybody know if there are still any Pittsburghers out on the course this year? Everyone I know of is in (or bailed). Austin Bible came in a bit before 9am, which means he now holds the east and westbound records as far as I know. (I forget what his eastbound time was last year. His westbound must have been  just under 28 hours. They'll be hard times to beat!)
