dirty dozen documentary - 01/26/2011 at 7:30 pm (wqed)
i figure fewer people received this email than might actually care, so here it is, straight from danny chew:
Pittsburgh TV Channel 13 (WQED) will air Rick Sebak's documentary of the 2010 Dirty Dozen this Wednesday, January 26th at 7:30 pm and Midnight. It will also be streaming on the Internet at:
http://www.wqed.org/tv/its-pittsburgh
You are invited to premiere this event at Over The Bar Bicycle Cafe at:
http://www.otbbicyclecafe.com/?page_id=220
on big screen TVs at 6:30 pm this Wednesday, January 26th.
I am still taking orders for the gold/yellow DD jerseys (on display at the start) for a pre-order price of $70 (plus $5 for postage & handling). If interested, please e-mail me with your name and jersey size so that I will have some idea of how many jerseys to have printed up. Thanks to Emma Wang for the jersey design, and Washington Reprographics for signs & posters. Once they are done, they will be sold on my website and at Big Bang Bikes.
Thanks to Glenn Pawlak & Big Bang Bicycles and Eat'n Park for sponsoring the 2010 DD.
Sincerely,
Danny

Cool
DVR set.
I will be watching it.
Top.
Does anyone know if it will be shown at OTB at 6:30 as it says above (like, do they have an exclusive premier of it?) or will it be on at 7:30 as regularly scheduled?
No TV here.
I'm pretty sure it's being show at 7:30. Will also be available online at some point, but what's the fun in that?
really wish i didnt have a meeting that lasts until 7:30 tonight because now i have to watch it alone on the internet which is apparently no fun.
ted at 3:06
i just found out last night that my friends put this documentary together. i had no idea!
In a somewhat related note : The OTB advertises an open stage on Wednesday nights. I'm planning on going down and doing a few songs.
Does anyone here go to the OTB open stage? I've been there twice on a wednesday - once there was a storm and the power on the block was out, so I jammed with some folks out on the sidewalk. The other time there was soem kind of bike community event, so there were plenty of people I knew - but no singers, no songs, no stage, nada.
What's up with that?
I fiugred I'd get ther early tonight, have a quiet dinner, and sign up for an early stage spot - I'm guessign now, it will be a rowdey crowd for the the DD.
I'm also guessing I biked a guitar (with a boat anchor 5-ply wooden case) on my back to work and I'll haul it to the southside for sh*t.
They have a phone. Call them up and ask?
i agree with ted
Please post here if it is also open stage night at OTB. Not sure if I will make it and no offense to the open stage lovers out there, but an open stage makes it an easy decision to stay in Bloomfield.
@dwillen They have a phone
Duh! Ok.
They said that yes they are having it. He said it starts at about 9:45 or so.
Thanks dwillen!
When something is advertised as starting at 9 and the bartender says "about 9:45" that often means 10:50 start. Bummer for me and my friends if I dont' get to be first on the list.
@BradQ. I can't say I disagree "And here's my third 15 minute slow-to-mid tempo mumbled emo song in E minor..."
On the other hand, I'm going there to recruit for the Bike Busker Band and some other projects. It's a mission.
Also, when I do an open stage? I rock it.
i liked it! now i wanna do it next year. looks brutal though
Can't wait to watch this at midnight!
@stefb: The DD is tough, don't get me wrong, but it's not that bad if you're just riding to survive. (And you spend so much time waiting for everyone to get up the hill that you get plenty of rest.)
It seemed like there were people on the ride that didn't know the hills and haven't ridden on them before. I would probably stay away from riding them beforehand because i wouldn't want to defeat myself before i even tried. I almost didn't watch the special for that reason. Steeveo made it look so easy.
good stidle footage at about 4:00 in the video from steve
Great doc. It made me want to ride so I hope on my bike at quarter to one and went and got the tag.
They did a good job with the show. I was surprised they were able to get footage of every hill.
Amazing. Great ride, and show.
But I have been able to willfully ignore this ride for 28 years, I think I can continue to do so.
Though it might be nice to do the route on a nice summer day, at my own pace, just to see the city.
wish i had known about the Dirty Dozen when i was in my early 20s, living up on Mt. Washington, riding a single speed BMX up William St 2x daily...
mad respect for the riders who've been in on the action for all these years.
For those that missed it on TV: http://www.wqed.org/tv/watch/
This was awesome, I want to do it next year. I ran CC in high school and our coach used to make us race up Pig Hill and Logan St. If you lost you had to go back to the bottom and race again. I know those 2 hills all to well.
Whoever is interested, we should get together some time this summer and try a few of the hills just for shits and giggles. I am sure i will fall right over once or twice.
I will gladly join anyone trying same AFTER I add a third front ring to one of the fleet.
