DIY Studded BMX Tires?

I remember seeing the diy studded tire threads on here before. would there be any reason that this would not work for bmx tires? i have a set of store-bought studded tires for my touring bike, but the winter road grime wreaks havoc on my drivetrain. im looking for a simpler alternative.

Should work fine.

You can get studded tires in BMX size: the Schwalbe Marathons are available in 406, fr'instance. Way more spendy than DIY, though.

If you'd like to try before you buy, I've got a set of 406x42 Winters in my basement. I'm not interested in selling 'em, but you're welcome to borrow them for a week and see if you like them.

reddan, thanks for the offer! i scoped some cheap tires at kraynicks and have been wanting to try the diy thing for a while now.

what is your impression of the set you own?

I used 'em all winter in 2008 on my dual-406 'bent. Heavy, slow-but-not-shockingly-so, tough, tread pattern even disregarding studs is pretty grippy in looser conditions like mud.

After ~ 4 months use, you can barely see any wear, which helps justify the exorbitant price.

nice. thanks for the advice!

im tempted to see if my studded 700's will fit on my ss 29er.
