Dreams Involving Bikes

I thought this might make for an interesting thread. Share your dreams involving bikes!

The other night I had a nightmare in which I came back to my bike (in a location I had never been before, possibly where I did my undergrad) which was locked to a stair railing. To my horror, my pannier, saddle bag, pump and lights had all been stolen. I got on the bike and quickly found the front light and the pump not far off. Then went and reported the theft and looked for the thief. That is all I remember...

Ok, so that was nightmare, but the idea is the same. I'm curious to see what interesting dreams we see here!

U-lock or a cable-lock? It's an essential question for a neo-Freudian analysis. And you say you've never been there before, but yet - you think you recognize the place. Hmmm.

You say you regained your pump (naturally) but couldn't find your baggage (saddlebag-pannier). Hmmm. Did you really want to find your baggage, do you think?

Tell me. How were you dressed?

Sorry. Just kidding. My dreams are all snakes and trains and tunnels and doughnuts, falling into black voids and being told I didn't sign my discharge papers correctly and having to go back into the military.

Interesting. I have wonderful vivid fabulous dreams that I swear are not so much dreams as they are my other real life. But I don't recall dreaming about bikes in any recent memory, I'm always flying about and what-not, so a bike is moot. I only need a bike here in this world to get that feeling. Ever since I was a kid I remember waking up wondering how it was possible that I could NOT fly.

I don’t think I’ve ever dreamed of being on a bike –either pleasant or unpleasant. I do sometimes have dreams where I need to run but my feet wont move fast enough. But I solve that problem by falling forward and running/gliding on all fours. I’m quite good at this and can go up some of the steepest hills you’ll ever dream about while dodging cars and trucks like they are standing still. Interpretations are welcome.

Flying, yes.

Bouncing to great heights and drifting back to earth, yes.

Cutting down rows of telephone poles with one swipe of my laser finger, yes.

Riding a bike, no. And I'm so disappointed for realizing it now!

I want a bike dream.

Oh wait a minute, I did dream of Canton Ave (thanks to all the DD stuff going on). I used it as a giant take-off platform for one of my floating-up dreams.

No bike though.

ok its just creepy how many of these dreams I have in common.

Dutting down telephone poles (With chops from side of hand or blades that pop out of fingers ala freddy)

not being able to run

tunnels and black voids.

im kind of scared to go to bed now.. thanks

oh man. one of my absolute worst recurring dreams is coming out of some store somewhere and finding my bike not there. i have been car free for nigh on four years now, and the very idea sends me into a stress spiral, so it's no surprise that i have nightmares about it.

and, perhaps strangely, i don't have any dreams that involve me riding a bike. i have many dreams that involve me running, but not actually running, as such. more like floating along the ground at running speeds (in the good ones), or trying to run like hell but being shocked at how slow i am (in the bad ones). i think it has something to do with the leg movement.

I just had a nightmare that I put my bike down in someone's yard where other cyclists were gathering, but then I walked away to a venue that was supposed to be Roboto. Then I realized that I left my bike unlocked. I ran down the street and luckily it was still there. A co-worker was still hanging out there anyway. I was relieved.

I keep having dreams where I get flats and broken spokes. And then it keeps happening in real life as well.

When my mind is all busy and I can't sleep, I think about riding. I don't ever seem to remember much after that.

I only ever have dreams of flat tires as well, at least that I can recall

Oddly enough I just had one that included a bike last night. It must have been Pgh though it was a completely fabricated environment, I went out for lunch riding a fixie and went to where my son and some friends were, in a Strip like area. I spent my lunch hour climbing the facades of buildings, various sculptures, and trees, like a spider monkey, all the while having normal conversations with the people on the ground, and amazed at the lightness of my body. It was a lot of fun. I like sleeping.

Last night, in a dream, I was going to lunch with my family (who are not in Pgh). I'm not sure how we got there, but right before we went into the restaurant, my dad handed me an ancient rusted up cruiser to lock up. I had no idea where it came from.

For me, bike riding is essentially the same thing as flying in my dreams, except that it is real, I have precise control over where I go, and I can't go as high.

I have bike dreams all the time! I don't remember anything interesting right now, though. Sometimes of things breaking in weird ways and then I get a little confused when I'm awake and they work just fine. Once I tried to do something with cottered cranks in a dream... On occasion in the half sleep before I get up I find myself confused about whether I am a bike or not. Sometimes I have dreams about riding, fixing or breaking, but often, even when it isn't the main focus, there are bikes at least lying around somewhere in my head.

I rarely remember dreams- maybe only a few times a year at most. I did dream the other night that a member of this board that I had never met had died- no details, just that they were dead. I was very glad to see them posting the next day.

Creepy. Glad everyone is still alive.

Sometimes I'm not sure which are the dreams and which are the rotten memories. Dream-wise, for years I've had a recurring nightmare of brakes failing in a car. Haven't transferred that to *dreams* about failing brakes, but have had fairly recent real-life situations of failing brakes.

Lots of happy memories of being somewhere around 11-16 and biking waythehellfar from home on a Saturday morning or a Thursday afternoon. Not dreams, but if I get a rotten dream, I think of those times.

Just checked, 8.5 miles one way. Not bad for a kid whose parents had no idea where the kid might be. On a 20" single speed. Even on the unicycle at 15, I'd head five miles one way.

In a dream last night, I was biking with my mom near our home in Florida. At some point we were also jogging. In the dream, I felt in really great shape haha.

I'm racing along ...

Winning! The Tour or something like it.

The finish line is in sight!

I'm far enough ahead that I can't see any other riders!!!

then just before I cross the finish line - a cyclist just blurs past me...

I finish 2nd - still very good.

On the podium the announcement is made...

1st Place is : Eddy Merckx

Eddie Merckx! Eddie Merckx! I did not realize he was in the race...

I ask someone, they tell me no-- that is not Eddie Merckx, It's God - he just thinks he's Eddie Merckx

The night before last I had a dream that I was suddenly on my bike but didn't have my helmet on so I started freaking out. I think it might have been brought on buy someone asking if I was the type of cyclist that ran red lights and didn't wear a helmet.

I had this dream right around the time this thread was created, but I just remembered it again:

Dan and Marcel wanted to go to the Superbowl in Flordia, and I think I was interested in tagging along. I'm pretty sure Stu and Stef B were too. Dan and Marcel asked Nick if he'd drive them back.

The conversation was taking place around some kind of big dirt hill for mountain biking, which Aryn and Colin B. were riding on.

Clearly, I spend too much time on these forums

The bad: I had a dream that I was back in the Navy and on a ship! :(

The good: They apparently installed a bike shop in the berthing while I was gone. LOL
