Too late, gone now. I was able to lug that wheel home, but the rest of it went off to some landfill.

Dumpster diving
After tying up in the Third/Fourth Ave garage bike station, I noticed the remnants of a bicycle in the dumpster on the 4Av side. It's disassembled but something close to complete. I extracted an intact 26" front wheel & tire, but lots more there. I have no idea what the story on it is, and didn't try to ID make/model. Just wanted to point out that it's there, and won't be there long.

are you sure the stuff was not stolen and dumped there for pick up later?

I don't. But I go past that dumpster all the time and wonder, if I had gone back downtown that night and gotten that bike, and figured out it was stolen, could I have reunited it with its owner? I didn't go back, and 12 hours later, the dumpster was empty.
