Flock of Cycles is taking a sabbatical

Hi Flock family, Flock of Cycles is taking an extended break. For the time being we are taking time off for much needed regrouping and rest for the board members. However I hope you all keep getting together and get out there and ride. We will miss you all during this extended break and hope to ride with you all soon. Love you all.

Sad to hear this, but completely support it. The Board does a lot of work. During sabbatical, maybe "a better way" will become practical. Kudos and thank you for all the good work and fun times Flock has produced. Flock rides are a "third place" where I've made friends.

How long of a sabbatical did you guys have in mind? Would hibernation be a better term to describe the break? I love Flock, and ride most rides year round. I can't wait for the return!

I still suggest that we just have our own party rides. Do like we used to. No waivers. No routes. Just different starting times different weeks with the intent of having a family friendly or slow paced ride, another that is fast, another that is... I forget, but it seemed like we had a different ride every week.

"Hey, Sailor! Looking for good time?" I'm gonna be hanging around Dippy at 6 pm on Friday. Rain, snow, shine, jihad, earthquake, or whatever, I'll be there. I'll have my bicycle with me. Anybody can hang out with me if they want.

Remember there is not going to be a Flock ride tonight. In the meantime, if Flock is important to you and you would like to play a role in helping it come back in the spring stronger and more sustainable, please let us know. Everything here is done by volunteers, and we need your help! You can email us at flockofcycles@gmail.com to find out how to get involved.

Hey Mick, I too plan on swinging by Dippy around 6pm. And while I was never in the Navy, I do own a bike. I was then planning on heading down the Jail-trail to meet up with some like minded party-style riders at Triangle bike rental at 6:45 to take in the light up night festivities. I've been told it's listed on "MeetUp", whatever that is. In years past it's been good to have a ulock with you in case you want to go into an art gallery or something. And of course the more lights on your bike the better.

meetup.com just another way to find like minds... I was going to come out tonight, but I'm coughing up a lung today and it's probably not a good idea. :(

^ were you celebrating "light-up" night in another way? Only three of us showed up. We then met five or so folks from the meetup group. It was kinda cold.

I hate cold... I was already under the weather for the Taylor Banks ghost-bike ride and now I'm thinking it's pneumonia. *sigh* Hopefully I can get into the doctor's tomorrow. I couldn't even enjoy these two beautiful days! :(
