Hey Everyone! Excited about the GAP officially opening June 15th? HOW ABOUT being part of the event? The "Flock of Cycles" has been invited to help marshal the big bike ride from Sandcastle to Point Park for the "Official Opening" event. The Marshal's main roles will be to assist in making sure the riders are safe during the ride, while also doing some light assisting duties pre-ride to directing people to the Sandcastle "starting line" and such. So far the schedule goes like this: 10:00 a.m. Ribbon cutting at Sandcastle 11:00 a.m. Ride from Sandcastle to the Point 1:00 p.m. Presentation & Unveiling of the marker at the Point Unlike our other rides, most of our marshaling is going to be in non-traffic areas along the GAP trail, from Sandcastle to Hot Metal Bridge, then down the Eliza Furnace Jail Trail. The only areas where we'll have to deal with some traffic are crossing the street in the South Side to get to the Hot Metal Bridge, and then from the sidewalk/trail around PNC First side to the corner of First Avenue and Grant Street., Ft. Pitt Boulevard, and to a bike-parking area at the Commonwealth Place which will lead to a final stage/convocation area. We are currently working with the organizers in finalizing details, but in a nutshell, this is the bulk of it. The ride is not a race! SO it will remain a slow, meandering, and enjoyable pace. We will be receiving the touring group coming from DC and arriving to Sandcastle for the ribbon cutting at 10am, and then we will marshal the group and other riders to Point Park for the last segment. We will need marshalls on-site at 9am, and on-to after 1pm. SO please! Let me know if anyone anyone is interested!
