Flock of Cycles: May Pittsburgh Bike Party

Friday May 17th Now that the sun is setting later, we're meeting at Dippy at *6pm* and leaving at 6:30 to give everyone a bit more time to get there after work. PLEASE INVITE YOUR FRIENDS! More details below... --What is a Bike Party?-- A Bike Party is a welcoming, family-friendly, all-inclusive, FREE event consisting of a leisurely-paced bicycle ride (complete with music and mechanical support) and ending with a post-ride party. The group pedals through the city at a slow, welcoming pace appropriate for riders of all ages and capabilities. You get a chance to make new friends, learn new routes, and have fun on your bike! --Where?-- We'll meet at Dippy the Dino (on Forbes Ave in Oakland, in front of the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, across from the Cathedral of Learning). --When?-- We'll meet at 6pm and leave at 6:30pm. (Won't be off work in time? Here is the route so that you can catch up with us along the way.) --How long is the ride?-- Around 8-10 miles. --What's the route?-- http://connect.garmin.com/course/3558892 --Where does the ride end?-- This ride will end with a potluck-style picnic at Schenley Plaza. Bring something to share, or buy something along the way (we'll stop at a store along the route) --What should I bring?-- Helmets and lights. And a bike to put those lights on. And all your friends! --What happens in the case of rain/snow/zombie apocalypse?-- On the afternoon of the ride, we'll decide whether conditions are safe enough to ride. Look for updates here, on Twitter, and on our website a couple of hours before the start of the ride if things are looking sketchy.

Also be warned this is "Into The Darkness" night, so unless you are an engineer DON'T WEAR A RED SHIRT.

Huh? You lost me... (edit) nevermind. Statistically, red shirts as a percentage suffer the least... There just happens to be more of them. Blue shirts (science officer) is where it's at). I think I'm driving home tomorrow for mom's day and sticking around for the week. Hopefully I'll have a chance to say hello on Friday. :)

red shirt = Star Trek reference, minor characters doomed to meet thier untimely demise on an away mission. Since they were glorified background chars, they typicall wore a red shirt. oh snap. my Flock shirt is red.... #panicmode

Or if you're a commanding TNG fan, do wear a red shirt, and tug at it constantly, but I guess that would make less sense on the day of a TOS-esque release Glad to see a return of the potluck, but the map route ends on Overlook Drive by the Schenley Tennis Courts, and Schenley Plaza is across from Dippy right?

Ah yes, "The Picard Maneuver"
Glad to see a return of the potluck, but the map route ends on Overlook Drive by the Schenley Tennis Courts, and Schenley Plaza is across from Dippy right?
Correct. According to the posted route the ride will finish up by the tennis courts & ice rink. So its approx a bit over a mile back to Dippy.

Sorry we just didn't have enough time to plan the Flock ride around the GAP ride. We will start at DIPPY as usual so we don't confuse anyone.

Yes, Picnic rides are always fun. It worked out well that the Childrens Festival was going on, we totally used the heck out of those tables.
