Very cool looking site. It will be interesting to see it grow with posts, events, etc.

I'm one of the fair weather riders you refer to on the site - I plan on trying a ride when it warms up. How long (distance and time-wise) are the Flock rides? And what would you say is the average speed?

Also, it is a WordPress site, eh?

Nice Logo too.

showed it to a friend, who mentioned this part:

This slightly more official version of Flock of Cycles will help us to make sure [...]

and asked: ...make sure what?

site looks great though! I'm now following you on twitter.

Looks nice, but the use of white on pale blue (and light gray on white) makes it hard to read. The smaller-than-default font size doesn't help either.

The goal of [...] seems a fine one though.

You'd think by now folks would be used to clicking through to read a truncated post, maybe I'll change that to be more instructive, thanks for the heads up.

The flock rides vary in time and speed depending on who shows up and who is leading, but overall midnight mass is a slightly faster ride, nothing too rough and we wait for everyone at tops of hills and after lights. The actual flock rides (flock at night and flock of cycles) are slow enough to carry on a full conversation. We've had a few rides that challenged my ability to stay upright while moving extremely slowly, haha.

Running wordpress yep, glad you like the logo :)

oh - i assumed that text was just a placeholder. you can't click the [...] (which i tried) and it's not obvious that the title is clickable (which i didn't)

How about links to the May Flock ride photo album? (much as I think I look smashing in green...)

Fixed the read more bit.

For anyone who cares - I had it set to work for the posts in the main section, which you can't see yet, but not the featured automatic excerpt, so I had to use str_replace to insert excerpts with a link.

Stu: Better flickr integration is on my punchlist.

Nice, Rob et al. You guys are a real organization now! ;-)

I really like your logo. Congrats on taking the next step.

I liked the website, and looks professional, BUT I really think someone needs to add the "Flock of Cycles" T-Shirt dude that Dan & company created :)

Oops! Double post!!!

I have a feeling using the likeness of a famous person in a logo would generate problems later on down the road, as we become a legitimate organization.

The t-shirt design will be "retired" when the last few I have here are gone.

:(

So the old T-shirts will be collector's items now?

:)

I really do think we're on the cusp of something big here. Yeah, keep those shirts. I don't think the suits and lawyers would give a crap about a fledgling group that made a couple of shirts for a bike ride.

But now that we're trying to make a legitimate go of it, it's probably good that we've come up with our own logo. The more I talk with Facebook friends from out of town, I realize just how good we have it here, and what this board, and this group, is doing to promote cycling here. If we can do what we're doing, as we've so ably demonstrated just in the past year, then surely the ideas can be ported to lots of cities nationwide.

Props to Scott & crew at Bike-Pgh for all the structural support, as well as to Nick and Dan and Rob and everyone who's gotten Flock of Cycles started!
