Free Bike Valet at 3 Rivers Arts Fest

I know the weather's not ideal today, but just know that it's an option.

That is great. I really like how the give a full detailed description on how to get there via bus/bike, T/bike and incline/bike. Wish people that live in areas that are hard to cycle from would utilize that more. It could be a lot of fun if people would just try it out.

Btw, I blame the arts festival for the downpour on my commute in this morning.

But this guy is there

The Wailers, tonight 8 pm.

That smell will not be burning brake pads.

Anyone go to this yet? How was your experience?

I was down there this afternoon & the corral was almost full! I think it was super easy and friendly. I hung around BS’n for a while and the folks I saw dropping/picking up their bikes all seemed very happy – of course they were on their bikes :-)

I volunteered for the evening shift on Saturday with poster dmtroyer and Scott G. It was super fun and people were really appreciative. I got rid of a lot of Bike Fest fliers, and they mostly went to people who had no idea Bike Fest existed and seemed genuinely interested.

Nice! Thanks for reporting. That's awesome that the bike valet was almost full. Thanks for volunteering Rachel and David!

I had a positive experience with the bike valet yesterday. It was pretty busy in the afternoon and seemed to be well received. After picking up my bike and tossing a few small bills in the tip jar a woman stopped me, "How much did he charge you?" My response, "well, nothing. It's free. Much nicer than driving a car..." Maybe I didn't provide a clear enough response because she looked confused.

Because I knew what to expect with the bike valet I did not look for/notice any signs indicating that it was free. Is it posted somewhere visible for those who may not understand what is going on?

good question. i'll be sure to look into it. parked about 500 bikes this weekend at it

@kelw

Maybe she was confused because she paid to park herself in a dirty, unguarded, garage a distance from the event, and bicyclists, who dont' pay registration fees or gas tax, get free valet parking right at the entrance.

Not only that, but incredibly, the valets were not surly at all.

And still! There are ungrateful bicylists that go through red lights!

I was there Satruday late afternoon and they helped me figure out a loose brake problem we had on one of our bikes. Unfortunatley I spent the last of my bills on some pottery and was not able to leave a tip- will try to do so this week. does the money go to the volunteers or to Bike Pittsburgh?

Friday, 8pm Carolina Chocolate Drops, Dolla Bank stage. If you don't know them, look em up, they kick ass.

I might have to make an evening of this.

I hope this weather holds, this is awesome.

I'll be there tonight: Sara Watkins on the mainstage at 7.

Used the bike valet friday night. got there saturday morning at 1145 (was volunteering with the festival itself at noon) and there was nobody working--but a dozen or two people had already locked their bikes up in the corral! Left & came back to the valet in the evening and it was packed. Great work, all!
