Freewheeler

I know this question has been posed before but does anyone know what the title under your pic means when you post on the board? Is it just arbitrary? Can you request to change it? I've been a "freewheeler" since I started posting here and freewheeler sounds alot like freeloader to me which kind of sucks. How about "highroller" or "lawbraker"? Ha! Only kidding about that last part. Just wondering what those little titles mean.

it's supposed to reflect your longevity or activity level or something, but afaict it became completely broken a few months ago.

salty

I think it reflects your total number of posts, so just post more I guess?

I'm a 'frequenter' @ 380-some posts. I'm thinking 'bossanova' kicks in @ 400. Soon will see...

wait - i was assuming bossanova was a low rank? if not then maybe i'm wrong about it being broken...

salty

"bossanova" is the high rank...it used to be "green and leafy" for some reason, back in the day.

reddan

It changes from Freewheeler to Frequenter somewhere between 77 and 311.

Then it changes from Frequenter to Bossanova somewhere between 363 and 426.

It stays at Bossanova up to at least 2117.

It should at least become some derivative of 'epic' after 1000. After 3200 it should be 'shaman'.

quizbot
2011-01-28 02:32:36

BTW, one shortcut to bossanova is to post 50x to every thread you start.

quizbot
2011-01-28 02:43:10

ugh, i guess you're a bossanova when you start forgetting threads you already read.

and, i wouldn't have believed such a thing existed if i didn't just see it - but that was a timito thread that didn't (slavishly?) spiral out of control! ok, i guess that part is debatable, but it didn't spiral out of control in a completely destructive way :)

How about "hermit?" "Recluse?" "Life-less?"

reddan
2011-01-28 02:59:13

it seemed like a lot of people (including myself) changed from 'frequenter' to 'bossanova' almost simultaneously, so i assumed something was broken.

i still don't get how bossanova isn't on the "new" end of the spectrum. maybe it's just more ironic than i can comprehend.

salty

"loser" is probably appropriate at some point...

salty
2011-01-28 03:01:31

You realize we're having this discussion at 10 PM on a school night. I think "loser" is already pretty much a given...

reddan
2011-01-28 03:02:55

hey - at least it's not 10pm on a Saturday night!

salty
2011-01-28 03:07:41

When you guys have 18,000 posts on a forum for a band you barely listen to anymore, then you can call yourselves losers :)

until then, that title belongs to me.

I like 'trollmaster' ;)

How about "Ladyface"? (cross thread humor...)

pseudacris

"Cellar Dweller"

reddan
2011-01-28 12:34:36

@salty: you prefer "bossovelho", perhaps?

I think somebody was looking at 60's slang and figured that was the exotic equivalent to "the cat's meow". With maybe a connotation of "capo grande".

lyle
2011-01-28 14:59:20

I think that at 1000 your handle and little picture thingy should be retired, you should be blocked from posting for two weeks, and you start over fresh - for your own good.

BTW: If I am a "bossanova," then it is a truly meaningless title (no disrespect intended to those other "boss"es out there.)

I think it measn that if you post anymore, you might be looking for a new boss.

i wouldn't mind being able to see some list of top posters or other stats. might be interesting.

@lyle - i'm still confused, but i guess i kinda get it.

@mick - definitely. fwiw, that was the first song i ever performed on stage and i believe i killed it. there's even a videotape somewhere.

“Ready are you? What know you of ready?"

chefjohn, "frequenter" you will become. 100 posts must you write. One day, when 419 becomes the count: bossanova.

erok
2011-01-28 22:23:27

yinz should have made the bossanova post count 412 instead of 419.

rachel_ding
2011-01-28 23:01:59

One should be "baked" at 420, but only at 420.

quizbot

I think after 1000 posts, it should just say, "GO OUTSIDE."

rubberfactory
2011-01-29 00:42:22

I think "newbie" is your title on your first 5 posts. I was bestowed the rare "moderator" title when my posts kept getting dropped for no apparent reason. Thanks erok.

teamdecafweekend

i think you might get a less flattering title if you keep spelling erok's name wrong :)

What spelling error? Ha, edit is a great tool! Thanks.

all of these requests can be done. the magic of the internet

erok
2011-01-31 16:33:19

If you're taking suggestions, and if there are these "levels" of participation, or whatever, how bout this:

newbie (0-20)

wannabe (20-200)

peleton (200-500)

Viking (500-999)

Jens (Jens would be too busy crushing to make posts. When you reach this point, go back to zero and start over. Besides, who do you think you are, anyway?)
