FS: Ultegra/Deep V road wheelset

Liquidating in order to fund new toys.

Ultegra hubs, 32-hole Velocity Deep-V rims, DT Swiss spokes and nipples, Schwalbe Ultremo tires. No cassette.

~250 road miles on wheels and tires, never ridden in rain/salt/snow/mud.

I'd like to get $350 for the set. If you wish to tell me I'm crazy and/or make an offer, please do it via PM or email dan dot blumenfeld gmail.

[ETA: I lied about the skewers. They do exist, and are included.]

If only theses would have been up for sale before my expensive rim project.

Ha nipples.

@mr marv: buy em' for the missus.

They would not work on a disc brake cross bike anyway... So while your previous rim project is expensive, this one would be even more so.

Not sure but I think that is a hell of a price. Who built them?

hmmm maybe I should buy them for Wifey, or buy them for my next bike.

Uh, me. Hence the price. (The spokes don't wiggle too much, I promise.)

NO! :-)

These are nice wheels, but I'd go for something lighter for any real road riding, especially for a presumably smaller and lighter female rider. Deep V rims are strong as hell, no doubt, but they're also pretty heavy. I run a number of wheelsets with Deep V rims. Just sayin'.

Yep. That's why I built 'em up for my fat arse. Wanted something reasonably Clydesdale-proof for typical SW PA road riding.

I'd not be selling them, but I'm putting together a new rando bike, so the mostly-unused go-fast 'bent and paraphernalia need to go.

These were on a recumbent, eh? I'd imagine you can't really unweight over things at all, and that smooth roads or strong wheels are pretty key.

bradq

Yep. This one, to be precise.

And you are correct re: need for strong wheels. If I wanted to stick to nothing but smooth tarmac, I'd go a lot lighter; but any bike I ride has to be vaguely capable of surviving real-world conditions.

I raced on basically this wheelset for two years. Deep V's are a bit heavy but not that bad for general road use.

Care to give a preview of this new rando bike?

A customized version of this:

Different steering/cockpit layout, fenders, 28mm tires, dynamo hub and lights.

And, if I choose to do something silly involving lots of dirt and gravel, the frame and fork have enough clearance for Surly fatties in the 3.8" range.

3.8"??? that's pugsley territory.

Yah, I doubt I'd get that crazy, but it's nice to have the capacity if I so choose. I'd likely just go for knobby cross tires on the 700c wheels if I wanted to do Hilly Billy or something like that.

On the other hand, there is something to be said for riding wide:

That is one stupid looking bike. It kind of makes me want a 'bent.

I just looked up some video on recumbent mountain biking.

Not sure if it's more or less sane than the dudes who do it on unicycles. You dudes are all crazy!

It's sort of reminiscent of this:
