anyone know of any other updates? I am currently in the city while my parents live in mckeesport. It would be great if i could take a trail home to see them. Riding that rode by Kennywood scares the begeebers out of me, so for now I must drive it.
I rode that section under the Rankin Bridge and can't wait till the entire thing is done.(weekend camping trips on the gap!)
Bikelove2010, I believe that imakwik1 posted a super secret awesome railroad path along the tracks that will basically get you to mckeesport. I got lost and couldn't find it but maybe he'll chime in and give you directions.

Just last week they connected the section of trail from duqesne to mckeesport. They are making progress. Slowwwwwllllyyy...

Hey I could really use a super secret way to get to mckessport also. I just camped at dravo last night and while on 837 I almost got hit 2 times. One guy passed so close that I felt wind from his car. Not sure why he even passed me in the lane I was riding in when there was a empty lane to the left.
willie, you can ride the "better" section of 837 until kennywood. Once past kennywood, you go over a bridge, then you make a quick right into Duquesne. go thru the neighborhood.
at Grand, you can make a left, bomb down the hill, then cross 837. as soon as you cross 837, the trail that goes to the bike bridge, is on the right.
i don't know if you can get on the trail earlier than that, i doubt it, yet.

the key is getting on right past the rankin bridge... come across the bridge and look for a road that is blocked off with a yellow gate on the left, you really can't miss it.
every time i go on it its being worked on and is more and more ridable... the first time i road it it was a gas line maintence road wtih tree roots (and apple trees, which was great) all over and now it is a 20 foot wide hardpack dirt/gravel trail... probably goes even further now too and might be in even better shape!

oh BTW, does this add any distance to the trip. I usually end up racking up about 18-20 miles going from my house to the trail head in mckessport taking all roads after going thru sandcastle.
Only slightly off topic, boy it'd be nice to have a safe, legal way across the tracks at the north end of the Glenwood Bridge. Then, with legal status (or at least polite tolerance) from Duck Hollow to the Rankin Bridge, we would be able to ride straight from Downtown to Braddock, for sure, and then with this piece, all the way to McKeesport.
Amen to that...you could more easily get to the Furnace, for one thing.
