Good bike parking near the hospitals (in Oakland)?

Hey guys...long time no post. I couldn't find anything posted about Hospital parking. Can someone tell me if there's good bike parking in the parking garage by UPMC Presby/Montefiore?

There is a really crappy rack on the top floor of the Montefiore garage.

Maybe the garage down the hill slightly from the corner of ohara and desoto st, it's at least partially covered.

The garage beteeen Montefiore and the Lillian Kaufman building on Fifth has an excellent rack. A little dirty, but inside, almost in sight of the attendents. Secure enough that a bike was left unlocked there - for a few months.

Inside the entrance and to the left.

There is a good rack under cover in the upmc garrage at terrace and lothrop. It's to the left of the entrance & the garage connects to the hospital. I've parked there a lot and never had any issues.

My bike got stolen out of Presby garage at the Lothrop street rack. The thief even took the 2 chains and padlocks. Use a ulock or a wrecker chain and heavy padlock. The local thieves in Oakland have tools so dont use no cheap cable lock or light chains.

Have you tried calling the hospital itself? Perhaps they have some sort of storage space that you could use, given the circumstances... it's not like you are asking to park a car in their lobby.

Edward M - I use a ulock and cable and park mostly in the evening. Like I said, I havent had any issues, maybe I should reconcider. When was your bike stolen?

If you use your ulock and secure any quick release wheels, you're probably going to be OK. It's just that bike thieves know that there are lots of bikes there and a quick snip is all it takes to roll away on a bike that's locked with just a cable.

You can probably steal a bike in less than 30 seconds with a pair of $2 wire cutters. People just don't realize that cable locks suck until they lose a bike. Bike-Pgh and others are trying to get the word out, but unfortunately, people often pass by that info until the issue hits home.

Don't know about the garage, but if you're not averse to putting it outside or for an extended period, there are the hanger racks here.

Here's the spot across desoto from presby, by the garage attached to the graduate school of public health

It's outside, but at least partially covered.
