Gun missing. Eliza Furnace Trail?

A new Monroeville police officer was changing after work and forgot his gunbelt on the pickup's cover. The belt and radio was found on Boulevard of the Allies ramp, the S&W 45ACP semiauto pistol and his taser were not. Probably scattered on the Parkway East somewhere between Monroeville and the Oakland offramp. If you find it along the Eliza Furnace Trail, I'm sure someone will want it back. http://www.post-gazette.com/stories/local/neighborhoods-east/former-pittsburgh-police-officer-loses-gun-taser-in-new-monroeville-job-694692/

What, is there some sort of 'rookies change in the parking lot' hazing going on out there?

Around 7 years ago I was riding in towards town and saw a handgun in the little walled off section on the 376 side of the fence near the bike rental place. I notified an officer I saw a few blocks later. My guess was the gun was either stashed or abandoned the night before. It always pays to look around at the ground when you ride- you never know what sorts of things you may find.

Mostly I find bungee cords and occasionally tools. A couple of rolls of electrical friction tape. Once a knife.

Yeah, funny, I never thought of that. Wonder what else the guy has in his trunk.

A guy claiming to be the finder of the gun says in the comments to that article that he didn't forget about the gun. "... I didn't forget about them at all, in fact I thought they were the guy that I got into the accident with and thought he threw them out his car for some odd reason.Held on to them to see if the guy would claim them through the insurance agent or something until Monday...."

I have found a lot of tools over the years- also a few rear blinkies, and once a nice reflective vest. Posted here but no one claimed. I did find a digital camera by the Jail Trail east end lot on 2nd avenue. Put up a small sign, and someone had called about it within 20 minutes- knew it was theirs because their picture was on it.

Sounds to me he was more intent on keeping it himself until he found out it belonged to a cop and decided to turn it in.
