A month or so ago, folks were inquiring about bike parking in the vicinity of Stage AE, which is right next to Heinz Field. The response then was that the best/most proximate parking was the racks at the Casino (near the extrance). Other toaster style racks around the casino were not bolted down, at that time.

If you are coming through town, the Bike Center on Seventh (opposite Bossa Nova) has some vertical and some regular racks that are sort of out of the public eye. That might be a good location, but it will leave you with an almost mile walk to the venue.

I think I'm just going to park in town and walk across the bridge.

You could alternatively park you bike at CCAC Allegheny if you wanted a walk from there. A lot of employees do that for baseballfootball games. (Albeit with their cars)

There are two Three Rivers Racks on the corner of Range (alley) and East General Robinson, between the Sixth and Seventh Street Bridges. Almost directly opposite the parking garage entrance, half a block from the Warhol.

Oddly, bicycle heaven has no bike rack.

CCAC sounds like a good option. I have some time so I'll just take a ride around and check it out.

When I went to the Monkees concert at Stage AE a few weeks ago, I locked to a fence across the street from AE and a little toward PNC Park. Eight to 10 other bikes were locked to the same fence.

There are a number of racks outside the A entrance just off the trail. I've parked there for Pitt football games in the past with dozens of other people.

I do wonder why Stage AE hasn't installed bike racks though. Their youthful brand is looking tired lately.

^maybe it's an extension of their seeming-attitude towards bikes in front of their HQ at South Side Works?

Hey, I just rode through there and spotted a bunch of racks just off the trail near Heinz Stadium. Will see if I can link a street view, though they're tucked near a pedestrian underpass.

[edit] ok, I stink at google maps links. The racks were just off the Three Rivers Heritage Trail where there's a very wide pedestrian underpass leading straight to Heinz Stadium, beneath N Shore Drive. They're black.

I often get asked for directions while riding, many times by car drivers. I can usually help them find most things, but sometimes if they're asking where the cheapest parking lot is, I can only shrug.

Related, somewhat: Heinz Field needs some sort of luggage lockers (or perhaps at Stage AE) so one can bike to see an event and still have somewhere to lock the stuff they won't let you bring in!

I locked my bike up at the racks mentioned by pseuda when I went to see weezer at stage AE. I know someone who works there.. Will mention it to him to see if he can inquire about racks there

LOL, yea, you should be on the Southside around lunchtime when the people come out for lunch. It is a bunch of 45 year old women smoking dressed in their daughters clothes. Kind of sad really.

On topic, I have seen a fair amount of bikes locked to the fence at Stage AE and none of them were ever even looked at by the "security" staff or police.

I called ALCO Parking yesterday, and they confirmed for me that there are NO bike racks in the Parking Garage on East General Robinson, between Federal and Sandusky (or Sixth and Seventh Street Bridges). Just providing this update "for the record."

@HV - yep, your first link. They are strange racks. I haven't tried them yet.

That's Gate A. You're supposed to put your front wheel over the handle and lock from there. They used to have the same racks at South Side Works before the Carson Street re-butchering.

They have similar racks on Federal Street, between the River and Isabella, just outside PNC Park. I wasn't sure they were actually bike racks. I thought (in that application) they might be fancy (and thin) bollards.

I locked up at CCAC but I could have been much closer. I'm just leery that with 60,000 drunken people someone would mess with my bike. I have to get my beater fixed & back on the road.

Ok I heard that there was a countdown displayed on one of the huge screens at the u2 concert last night showing how many days were left until there was no oil remaining. I was wondering wht kind of point they were making. Were they saying that they are part of the reason that so much is used? They had at least 50 trucks hauling in their stage, etc. If this information is correct, i really hate u2 more than I did before.

One thing I hate about U2 is they are a group with no social consciousness.

I am sure Bono is well of the carbon footprint is for their tour.

I am not saying that they don't try to be involved in other social issues an make a positive change, but why the hell would they say anything about oil consumption with much as they wasted for entertainment purposes? That is like the pope saying that aids is a problem and we have to do something about stopping the spread of it but then sending catholic missionaries to areas where it is a problem and telling people that condoms are evil.

But anyway, I have heard that bike rack installation was an oversight and stage AE may put it into next year's budget.

Let's just hope that Stage AE talks to some real bike people about what type of rack to get, instead of willynilly getting a couple of old toaster racks.

Eh, I don't know. It's kind of like people criticizing Al Gore for flying in a jet or vegans for consuming fruit pollinated by bees.

Sure, U2 uses a lot of resources on their tour, but millions of people want to see them. What's the justification for the other billion people driving their car three miles to work?

I find it hard to fault U2. Back during one of the 1970s oil shortages, the Indy 500 was shortened to 400 miles as a symbolic gesture (read: P.R. stunt). It was correctly pointed out that the vehicle-miles traveled by the 250,000 people in attendance to watch the race vastly dwarfed any savings of 33 cars traveling 100 fewer miles.

They actully use 120 trucks to move this production from city to city. U2 purchased carbon offsets to take into consideration the environmental impact of the production.

From each show U2 donates all the proceeds from a section of VIP ($1000+) seats to African relief to fight the spread of tuberculosis, aids, & malaria. The 360 tour has raised over $15M from the sale of red zone seats.
