I Love Crossing Guards

Usually if I am posting a ride story, it has to do with a bad experience, but last night I had a great ride experience.

I was riding with some friends to the point for fireworks around 7pm and we were trying to get to find a place to lock up, riding on Commonwealth Place stopped at a green light with a swarm of pedestrians crossing the street at Blvd of the Allies. A crossing guard jumps in the swap with her hand out, and I first thought she was going to yell at us for getting close to the group, but then she yells "Stop! Hold up! Let the bikes through, they have a green light."

We were all surprised, thanked her, and with huge smiles on our faces, we pedaled through.

I have also have had some good experiences with crossing guards on Butler in Lawrenceville, and Dawson & Blvd of the Allies in Oakland.

So, to all the crossing guards out there, thanks!

I loved riding to work during school days because the intersection by my house doesnt have a light, is right by a highway exit, and no one ever stops. Except when the crossing guard is there, and then she stops the traffic at the crosswalk and lets me ride across the intersection. Now that school is over she isnt there... sad. But I would make sure I left my house when she was to get the special treatment.
