interest in a single speed ride (you don't need a ss bike)?
marko and i were discussing the idea of having a single speed bike ride sometime. those of you who have single speeds and fixed gear bikes will obviously not need to alter anything. to those of you who don't own a single or fixed gear bike, you would pick a gear and stay in it for the whole ride. it wouldn't be full of hills or anything, but obviously, you need to climb a hill or two to get around in this city. any thoughts? any interest?
Depemding on when I would like to give it a try, cant promise anything but it sounds like fun. I would be really open to a saturday day ride.
Depending on if I'm available, but sure. I have a habit of sticking in one gear for flock rides anyway.
Love it.
Do we hafta wear black? (just kidding, I know I dress like a dork).
i will wear a white belt for this.
I'm in...I usually ride in one gear anyway!
Since it has been discussed elsewhere of the ability of StefB to stomp ass on a SS, this smells suspiciously of some kind of ambush (he says, walking backwards into the unlit room in the abandoned house).
say when.
@edmonds --totally agree! StefB did the MS150 on her SS -including the century option!
Regardless, ambush or not, I'll bite!
"Thor" ((my new road bike)) is pretty much a single speed at this point, so this might be a good ride to take it out.
Although , hills.... ugh!
I am actually not as fast as people say, but that is a nice boost to the ego
Stef..... you kicked ass at the MS! So whatever!
Sounds like fun. Schedule permitting, I'm in.
anyone other than john and me riding fixed?
Colin, I am.
I ride fixed.
you got something other than your bmx then? what did you wind up doing? also we need to get chris on this ride. the penny farthing is definitely a single speed.
penny farthing is definitely fixed
well yeah...
"you got something other than your bmx then? what did you wind up doing? also we need to get chris on this ride. the penny farthing is definitely a single speed."
A Trek Earl as my "daily driver", and a frame from Mark that I'm building up into another fixed bike.
i want a pennyfarthing with a freewheel
@mark: the classic technique is to simply take your feet off the pedals.
too skerred! i find that doing that makes it hard to stop... is the classic pennyfarthing brakeless?
is the classic pennyfarthing brakeless?
Nah, it had redundant braking systems.
A) A spoon on a hinge (I'm not kidding)
The sole of your shoe
C) The sole of your foot
D) Any convenient immovable object.
E) stick in spokes
the nut guard on the thing isn't much more confidence inspiring than the brake. it looks like an edging guide from a weed whacker.
Would this event happen on say... Friday?
I don't see a Flock on the calendar
I wanted to but I think i may be tied up with things before going out of town this weekend. I may do it on the off Friday next month. I will keep you guys posted.
SS Ride! Keep me posted. I'll bring Chico too, I'd think he'd like it.
Chris said he's in but the penny farthing will only come out if the ride is super mellow as hills are terrifying.
The two minutes I was on a penny farthing, was the scariest time I've spent on two wheels. That was on a perfectly level stage.
