On a slightly related note, can you recommend any good tires for this kind of riding? My rims are 1.5" but I figure I could put on something wider with treads

i doubt your rims are actually 1.5" wide. that would be 35mm wide, which you only find in high end downhill rims. you sure you arent talking about the tires currently on your rims?

anyway, as a rule of thumb in the woods, you want wider rims. wide tires on narrow rims is not good times. unless you think folding the tire over in corners and pulling it out of the rim is a good time.

Ha, no I am indeed referring to the tire, have no idea what the rim actually is

I basically just want to ride around on my disc hybrid, but only feel like changing the tires

I actually got out for about an hour today!

The Racing Ralphs didn't do me any favors on the climbs for sure, then again I'm so out of shape I was walking a lot of stuff anyways...which also made my cleat into a big ball of ice. I should get platforms before Friday.
