I love pittbulls. They can be the sweetest dogs in the world, and bad owners give the animals a bad reputation :(

thanks for this, I needed a little pick-me-up. dogs are only as bad as their owners, I wish more people understood that.

I love pittbulls.

Me too. You're probably way too young to remember, there used to be a woman on TV who presented lessons on car repair/maintenance - haven't seen them for ages but she still has a shop - transmissions by lucille. I was out there a few times picking up a friend who was dropping his car off etc., and she had a really sweet pit bull named vicki. I brought her* a dog treat once and after that she always wanted to jump on my lap and give me a kiss when I'd visit. Lucille said in England they're called nanny dogs.

*Vicki, not Lucille. That was probably clear.

they were called nanny dogs here too. the "little rascals" dog Pete was a pitbull. Pitbulls generally love people, especially children and babies.

Currently, Pitt Bullare the gog of choice amongst stupid guys that want the "agresssive dog of the year."

I'm guessing that pittbulls are currently being inbred to meet demand, they are being bred for fierceness, and there are an inordinate number that are being abused in a badly-train-for-viciousness way, then being abandoned.

I've seen it happen in my lifetime with first German Shepards and then Dobermeans. I think the German Shepard breed is mostly recovered from that happening in the 1950's. My impression is the doberman breed never recovered from that happening in the 1970s.

FWIW, every dog that I can remember that chased me on a bicycle in the 1966-1976 era was a German Shepherd.
