Keg Ride Fund Raiser: April 27th

Just a heads up, there are probably only about 100 tickets left for the Keg Ride on Saturday and there are is no day-of registration. Funds raised will benefit BikePGH and In Stride Therapeutic Riding http://localhost/2013/04/18/268439/

Thanks to George, slopes and others for waiting on the side of the road with me. Yes it's broken. Kids, NEVER stick a caution flag into your front wheel especially at speed! Looks like i'll be off the bike for a few weeks.

Sorry to hear it, hope you're not feeling too much pain... Your purple strap finished in your honor.

Marko went down :( at Negley at speed about 22 mph. Rolled over right shoulder very impressively and was on his feet in no time.

He was about 100 feet behind me. The ride had regrouped at Highland Park, and had come down through Bryant to Negley. He and I and a couple other marshals, and two motorcycle policemen, were leading the pack down Negley. I heard what sounded like six spokes being broken, then a crash, looked around and saw someone going down, didn't know who, but someone was already stopping to help. P.S. Really sorry to hear that this happened, Marko, and I hope you recover quickly and completely.

That sounds immensely painful, very sorry to hear this & glad there were people around to stay at your side. I zipped by shortly after it happened in a rush to marshall Negley @ E Lib w Stu, Rice Rocket & I think Team Decaf. That intersection was a mess of impatience once the giant group broke into smaller (but still big) groups. I hope you recover quickly & completely. +1 on offers of help.

Ok, here’s the stupid details. I was riding fast to get to the front because I had an intersection coming up. I was carrying a rolled up flag in my hand and without thinking I reached down to upshift (I have old school down tube shifters). I wasn’t paying attention and the tip of the flag found the inside of the wheel. Totally a bonehead move on my behalf. I’d say I stopped rather suddenly, but that would be too kind. Anyway, I landed on my right shoulder and skidded for a while. The x-ray says… broken clavical mid-bone. I got a sling and some pain meds but it shouldn’t need surgery which is good. Thanks for all your concern and offers, but I should be ok in a few weeks. It’s not the first time that it has been broken, just the most viewed

Good to know that you're okay. and bikeylady is right; someone may have to draft some flowery languaged "hold harmless" release form in preparation for the reverse kegride...

Just another viewpoint... I was maybe 100 yards behind the accident, didn't see it happen. Marco was just getting up off the street when we arrived. We are moving fast, like Mikhail said - over 20 mph. Cop said "you need medical?" Or something like that. Marco says "no, I'm okay." Cop repeats "you need medical?" "no" is the reply. Marco standing on the sidewalk looking shaken, but okay. We assume marco is okay, just needs to chill awhile. Marco's vest is ripped in the back, we see he slid on his shoulder. Others had stopped. We keep moving on to our intersections. So bummed to hear it was more serious. Get well, John.

Marko I'm sorry this happened, and I'm really sorry I wasn't there to help you. Heal fast we have a lot of riding to do.

Damn Marko, sorry to hear about that, but in this case, it's what they say, stuff happens. I wasn't on the ride, but it was a beautiful day. You're a tough bird and you'll be back on it in no time.

Best possible way to break something in an OTB fall. That part is pretty built to do that to save your neck and arms. They heal quick too. You might have a lumpy shoulder after though. I know I do. Get well soon man.

I am feeling bad that we didn't stop--we were rushing to marshal the upcoming Walnut Street intersection and initially thought you were okay, Marko. :(

I think I remember cburch riding his bike again shortly after a broken clavicle... And moving us to an apartment. Hope you feel better soon.

wow, sorry to hear that that happened. i was near the back of the pack, and didn't see anything unusual coming through there. hope it heals well and quickly. and on a different note, this is the best time i've had on one of these. schenley plaza turned out to be the perfect destination yesterday. i underestimated it and got my first sunburn of the year, but it was worth it. sitting out in the sun, drinking a beer, and then suddenly realizing that my captain my sea was playing will be tough to beat in future events.

I was around 10 yards behind Marko at the time of the incident. He was riding along one moment, then flailing to a grand wipe out the next. As I was watching it happen, two things were running thru my mind. I hope he's ok and i hope i dont crash into him. (plus a few dozen selective expletives as well.) Glad its not too bad, but bummer that it happened.

oh marko, stop being so modest. he selflessly threw himself in harms way to protect a baby puppy from being run over by an evil suv.
