Log those miles!

The bike challenge is nearly over! Pgh ranked #36 last I checked. We have a team in the top 20 nationally. The end of the month is quickly approaching...

can you log them if you rode them earlier, but forgot to register?

i've been tracking mine, but just using a different app.

2012-08-30 03:12:11

I don't see why not.

You only get points for miles if you log them in the same month. Someone on my team got screwed by that rule. I asked Lou about a grace period but it didn't get implemented this year.

Log them where?

2012-08-30 11:51:43

After I reached Platinum I stopped logging

Hmm, if its only within the month then I suppose I could still throw in the 400 from august.

I guess u shoulda started earlier.

I tried to log my full day from June 30 on July 1. No dice. I'm estimating ahead for August 31.

i think its only counting miles logged for the week. i just entered 400 miles for august, and its only counting the 45 from this week. :(

The site runs on squirrels which they don't seem to feed enough. Wait a half hour and recheck - it's sloooww

It's a bummer. alucas uploaded his GPS files from the beginning and only got credit for the current month. Team Barkley would have a lot more miles if they were all counted.

k, so i was able to enter the miles from July as well, the total jumped from 45 up to 821 points.

sassy, guess im gonna plug in the numbers from june & may as well. (too bad may is gonna stink, lousy broken arm.)

so i got all 4 months entered, its not counting them all though. 1131 miles ended up logging as 948 points and 389 miles for august.

2012-08-30 15:43:11

Feel your pain pbeaver. Dislocated elbow ruined the rest of August for points.

mine was a cracked radial head in my right arm. no cast, and when the docs looked at the x-rays, i found out that i had apparently broken that bone before.

That was news to me.

I've noticed the lag time as about 20 minutes. When you sit down to the PC, first thing you do is log the miles. Then go check the rest of the message board, email, Facebook, whatever, and come back, refresh, and your numbers should be there.

The Tag-o-Rama team jumped to 6th place in the national rankings today! I might have to put in some extra miles today and tomorrow just to make sure we stay there.

ETA: Most of the other teams in the top 10 have gotten all or most of their points from "sport," whereas 75% of ours are from "transport." I know lots of people aren't necessarily keeping those two kinds of rides separate when logging miles, but I still think that says something interesting (not sure what, but something) about the nature of the cycling community here

2012-08-30 18:14:34

Nationally we're 6th for August & 13th for the whole period. Go team tag-o's

BTW, per Lou:

I hope you can join us at the wrap party on Septemeber 7th at OTB.

@pearmask you have really cranked up the mileage since the beginning of the challenge, Very impressive! I must get myself a space horse. Also I've been thinking of getting a team tattoo right above my ass, like a tramp stamp. Perhaps we could get a group rate? Just kidding........but.......nah.....just kidding

Oh, yeah, I forgot to check the "whole period" rankings. Awesome on both counts. I guess BikeFest gave us a boost this month.

Hah, I guess I have. The beginning of the challenge was shortly after I got back on the bike from my stupid broken collarbone that had been making me stir-crazy, and then it was summer and I was bored, and then I got a new bike, and then I realized I was actually capable of doing long rides... so all factors converged to yield continuously increasing mileage and an obsession that I probably need a 12-step program for. (I am already thinking about the next bike that I want to purchase... please, someone, intervene)

And yes, you should get a Space Horse. I lurve it.

Yes please to group tramp stamps. Or right calves, like a chain tattoo.

Woot! Go Tag-O-Rama getters!

As the 10th-place holder in Tag-O-Rama Getters, I can honestly say this whole promotion was a success. I said at the outset that I am not a long-distance rider, just a tough old goat trying to prove the point that anyone who really wants to can get on two wheels and push his butt down the road. Even if it's 10 miles from the suburbs into town. And actually enjoy it most of the time.

I almost never ride for pleasure, maybe one or two group rides a month for fun, and most of those are short.

Mainly I commute, and many many days, I chose not to ride the whole way in, just the mile to the bus stop, or the three miles to West View. All those add up, too, 20 points a day just for trying. I only broke 20 miles/day a handful of times, but those 5s and 10s add up.

In mid-July I was slowed by a minor injury, and while it didn't keep me off the bike entirely, my riding went way down for a while. Just have to keep at it.

That said, I still have a solid 2,500+ points.

i wish i had gotten started on this from the beginning, but i still managed to get up to 25th for august. Still another day to go, i might be able to break into the 1k points range.

sadly im 339th overall.

suck on it 340! whoo!

2012-08-30 19:52:58

stu: i have a two-mile commute, but simply riding to work and back every day (plus a couple other little things, like the 30 miles i did for pedal-pgh) somehow has me in or near the top 100 for the month locally.
