March Flock of Cycles Party Ride this Friday!!!

Facebook Event

The weather is looking great for Friday and we have the added bonus of a later sunset--perfect weather for a party ride!

The Party Ride is a monthly ride held on the second-to-last Friday of the month. The ride meets at Dippy in Oakland (4100 Forbes Ave.) at 5:30p with the intent to leave by 6p.

The group pedals through the city at a slow, welcoming pace appropriate for riders of all ages and capabilities. You get a chance to make new friends, learn new routes, and have fun on your bike!

Helmets and lights are MANDATORY.

Hope I can make it this week. 12 hour days for the last two weeks - I could use a good flock.

Blah, work called me today asking me to work late. Looks like I'll have to miss another one.

Great ride! Anyone know how many miles we traveled? I'm guessing 15-20.

Thanks for stopping to get me! the last leg of the ride was fun, although Liberty did make me nervous, then out of breath, then sweaty/gross. Can't wait for my shower in a few hours (insomnia before work. Lame)

Stu, I meant to track it on my phone but forgot...if anyone didn't do it I'll try and map it out tomorrow.

That was a fun ride. My first time over the west end bridge.

Mine too! At least by bike.

I take it Marko's tire did NOT blow out? Remarkable.

No Nick gave me a spare tire, and Kayla was nice enough to run back to their place and get it. Big thanks!!!

Thanks to all for waiting for us at Liberty & 40th. Sarah's knee gave out at the bottom of the hill. It was her first time on a bike at all in recent memory.

Sounds like it was a good one. Hate to have missed it. I have never biked across the West End Bridge.

I don't advise it. My lady friend asked me, "why are we biking on the freeway?!"

dwillen

I haven't either. Sad I missed it

The West End Bridge was all Gordon.

The West End Bridge was all Gordon.

I ride across the West End Bridge occasionally on a longer ride, and don't really mind it. Was it really that bad?

ieverhart

It wasn't that bad if it was a midnight mass. If it is a Flock ride with people who have never biked on roads before, the west end bridge is a little scary :-)

So it turns out I inadvertently was in the ride for all of 30 seconds...

Had no idea what it was, all of sudden there were all these bikes ahead of me going up Hot Metal Bridge from 2nd ave.

Didn't find out what was going on until I tweeted Stu about it. ( I happened to recognize him from a previous brief meeting. )

I was just at the site. Is there anyway to get announcements pushed to me? (Like a meetup group or shared calendar.) I'm awful at remember dates, so if its on my phone, it gets forgotten.

[Seriously, I had to put "Getting Married @ The Phipps" on there for 5/28!]

There is a google calendar! It is the same one as is embedded on flockofcycles.org, but you should be able to add it to your own google calendar and get updates however you wish.

Our events should also be posted on Facebook and usually are mentioned here on the board. Check either place for last minute updates if the weather looks sketchy.

Awww, I missed the West End Bridge! I'm not sure if I've cycled over that or not. I recall it being frequently annoying in a car though because like people are trying to merge into like four different lanes, if memory serves me right.

@myddrin - Flock party ride is always the 2nd last Friday. We just don't know where we're going to go.

re: West End Bridge: That was a case of group badass-ness. I myself thought we'd take one sidewalk or the other, but no, we got right out there and took a lane of the bridge. Wow.

OK, this may be a little off-topic, but has been kind of bothering me for a while. Would it be possible to have the exact date of an event in the title (and possibly the main section of a post)? So that, as with this thread, when discussion and follow-ups carry over into the next week, people don't think that "this Friday" means 3/25. My sample headline for this page would be "March Flock of Cycles Party Ride - This Friday, 3/18/2011." This also goes to the issues of needing reminders brought up above.

Sorry to be a pain but I think it would be a useful policy if adopted more or less consistently.

ieverhart

It would make sense to rename the headline, at least for this thread.

Erok?

I always forget the date for these threads but I'll make it a point to include it for future rides.
