Mckeesport to Clairton

I was cycling the Yough Trail a few days ago trying out the new Riverton bridge.I then wanted to bike from the bridge to the Montour Trail in Clairton, but didn't know how to get there???Is there a trail in Mckeesport that gets you there?? If not,are the roads safe for cycling there?

There's a set of so-so directions on the Montour Trail website here.

My version: in McKeesport, cross the Yough via the bridge, then follow the main road along the Mon to the bridge in Glassport. Cross bridge and make left onto 837, then make right at Montour Trailhead a mile or so down the road. (My version doesn't follow the Steel Valley trail signs; those take you a bit more out of the way, but keep you off main road for an extra mile or so.)

I've done it a few times; it's pretty mellow, traffic-wise, at least on the weekend.

There is "so-so" signage directing you how to get there. If you have any doubt what way to go just follow the steel valley tail signs.

Warnings:

1) Unless the roads out there have changes in the roads since I've been out there , you do NOT want to cross on the Riverton Bridge and go south on 837 from there. It is a narrow, winding road with many large trucks and speeders. No shoulder worth mentioning.

2) Glassport is traditonally the home of the KKK in Western PA. I lived there for a year once and had no serious problems, but there are some rednecks out there.
