Last I recall reading, the ramp up to Smithfield St bridge and the connector to the Point were slated for this year.

Likely to happen? *shrug*

And the Mon Wharf trail segment still doesn't connect to the point, does it?

@Kordite: I believe the plan for 2011 was to build:

A)a big honkin' switchback ramp from the east end of the Mon Wharf to the Smithfield St Bridge, and

B)some kind of path hung off the edge of the existing retaining wall by the water to connect the west end of Wharf with the Point.

I haven't been down there in a while, so have no idea if either have been started.

Will be awesome once it's done. Last time I checked it out nothing was going on construction wise. That was in the fall.

I thought the $2.5 million in stimulus money was for the Mon Wharf Landing project last year. But the city's stimulus project page is confusing. It says the "Mon Wharf Switchback" stimulus project was for "Replacing parking spaces to connect the bike trail along the Monongahela River", which sounds more like the Mon Wharf Landing project than the switchback.

This editorial says the Landing project was $2.3 million, part of a total $6 million package that also includes the Connector around the Ft Pitt bridge supports and the Switchback at the Smithfield St bridge.

And the county's Riverfront Report (PDF), dated December 2010, says Riverlife is still in the process of raising funds for the switchback ramp.

My guess is the Connector piece may get done this year as part of the Point State Park renovation (Riverlife doesn't list it as a separate project), but the switchback ramp will have to wait until Riverlife gets another grant.

Well also, the GAP trail is supposed to be completely finished by 11/11/11, so I assumed it would be done by then, but maybe not?

That's a good point. I hope so.

The last ETA I saw for the section from Duquesne to Homestead was for this month, or else early 2011. So perhaps we'll see that part open soon, at least.

I have heard that the Duquesne to Homestead section is functionally done but is merely awaiting an official opening to bring down the fences. I am eagerly awaiting that announcement.

I checked out the Duquesne to Homestead section in november or december. It was paved and nearly complete. It looked like just a few minor thing needed to be done.
