Montour trail ride?

Hey all -

So this Montour trail airport connector is open.

Anyone interested in riding on Saturday from the city to the airport and back and checking it out?

Probably about a 65 mile ride round trip.

I would be up for this! Were you thinking of doing an out-and-back to the airport? I would be interested taking a detour to eat some food at loving hut robinson... because whenever I make it out that way it's too tempting to pass up.

Where in the city are you starting and what time??? Will this be at a moderate pace??

I was thinking late morning - sometime after it warmed up a little.

I haven't planned where in the city to leave from yet - Either the Bud Harris Oval or the Point downtown?

If you want to suggest a route map, go for it! It would be more interesting to come back a different way. I myself have never actually ridden out there or on the Montour Trail.

possible route?

Point State Park

Fort Pitt Bridge

TR depart 51 for Neville Island

possible stop: Subway under I79

after Neville Island - Coraopolis Bridge, TL second light on 51South

TL Groveton Trailhead, Montour Trail MP0

The only time I rode out I took the north side trail to the McKees rocks bridge then up over Neville Island to start the Montour trail in Caraopolis. Then it looks like it would make sense to get onto the Panhandle trail off of the Montour trail near McDonald, and bike through Carnegie and Oakwood on Main St./Noblestown Rd. Or, to make it longer with more Montour, it might work to leave the trail near Bethel Park and ride through Mt. Lebanon, but that would entail a lot of non-trial riding. If I'm the only one who is going to stop and eat at loving hut we could do that in reverse order because it's not far from the Coraopolis trailhead.

If I was to go, I'd suggest a variant of my route to FedEx:

* Start in Point State Park

* Ft Duquesne Bridge

* river trail to the old jail

* R Doerr->L Beaver->R Eckert->L McClure->L Antrim->R Fleming->L Termon

* Aim for and cross the McKees Rocks Bridge

* Bend right onto PA51

* L Tunnel Way

* R Broadway

* R Pine Hollow Rd

* L Fairhaven

* R Clever, merge onto Beaver Grade Rd

* R/L to access road to Montour Trail at about Mile 3.

* Fill water bottles at fountain and L onto trail.

This is about as traffic-free and hill-free as you're going to find. Antrim and Fairhaven are the only halfway tough hills, and they're neither horrible nor long.

We went, it was awesome, but what would most interest readers of the Pike Pittsburgh message board is that not only did we stop at the Loving Hut in Robinson and the food was awesome, but the proprietor let us roll our bikes in to the restaurant and leave them in the foyer. Loving Cup, very well named indeed!

Were there 3 of you? Mid afternoon I saw 3 riders going right thru the mall area who looked alien to the place. If so, Hi!

I have never been to the Loving Hut, they don't try to convert you to anything do they?

That was almost certainly us; there were three of us and we rolled through at around 3pm. There's definitely some propaganda type stuff around (go veg & go green & save the world), and on our way out the owner told us we should be vegan because it would make us strong, but I mostly just see it as the whole weird package of this extremely tasty restaurant. The ching hai cult stuff is not really offensive, it's more just bizarre and yeah - just adds to the weird tasty experience.
