MS 150 2009

sooooo

there has been some discussion of MS 150 elsewhere and I can't find anyone talking about it here on bike pgh. Last year I did what I could to step up and be LA CAPITAN(A) but this year I am a liiiittle swamped to do any extra anythings. but! we should all do this ride.

It is fun. It is great. I meet new awesome pgh bike folks every summer, and it benefits the National MS Society

Read more about it here: clicky for the bikey

I am teetering about doing it this summer because of being so busy, but I have heard rumor of a Thick Bikes Team? A super Bike PGH-DORC-Thick Bikes amalgam?

also, hi message board. i havent been here in a while.

hello over on this one...

sounds like that's the holy trinity of a team.

i hate asking people for money, but i had so much fun a two years ago

I'm hoping to do this... depends on travel plans throughout the summer though. This ride is ore fun than you'd expect.

More likely an unholy trinity! I'm doing it with the Thick team and I've already raised more than half the money. I had so much fun last year and can't wait to do it again.

yeah i hate raising money too. but it is really really easy to do for this ride... at the same time i feel bad every year when i ask again. oh well.

so are we all just registering for the Thick team then? I am sure Chris doesn't care...

Has anyone else ever done the ms150 fixed? Last year was my first and I had only been riding fixed for about 3 months so I decided to do the ride that way for a "crash" (heehee) course in riding a fixed gear bike. It really wasn't that bad and I was able to keep up with some pretty strong friends riding road bikes but since I was unable to coast or lift my ass off the saddle the entire time at the end of the ride my ass felt like an old baseball glove. Really, my legs were fine, my body was fine, but I could barely ride for about 2 weeks because my ass hurt so bad.

The whole reason I'm bringing all this up is because I'm considering riding my road bike this time but I'm not sure if it will be better or worse. On my roadie, the top tube slants downward towards the bars and the stem is relatively short, while on my fixie the top tube slants the other direction, higher towards the bars and has a higher rise stem. It boils down to this, roadie = gears, brakes, more uncomfortable riding position, fixie = more relaxed riding position, sore ass. Advice?

i did it fixed.

i think you should look into why you cant stand up

on a fixed gear?

I did it fixed for a few years and geared last year. My pace was about the same but my knees and ankles felt better after riding geared. Ass is ass.
