New Bike Friendly Business in Ben Avon

The Anchor and Anvil Coffee shop has requested (and may have been granted) Bike Friendly Business status from Bike Pittsburgh. They may just be the first BFB in the 15202 zip code! They installed new bike racks out front today, and they'll be ready for use tomorrow (cement has to cure). Thanks go out to Dan at Bike Pittsburgh who offered guidance, and to the Boro of Ben Avon who suggested the installation of racks, bought them and had their staff install them (they are the property owners for the business, which shares space with the Ben Avon VFD. It is located right on Church Street (AKA Lincoln Ave when in Bellevue). Bike Pittsburgh members showing their membership card get a free upgrade to next larger size on all coffee and espresso drinks.

I stopped in there today. What an excellent coffee shop, lots of space and seating. Great coffee. Wifi. Pastries. Nice people. (bike racks). Made a point to tell the owner I came by because of the bike rack news from BikePgh. also, I've never been in BenAvon before. seems very nice.

Erok; It's a very cool place. Just out of sight of the photo is the casual lending library, an area for games and such, and a couple more arm chairs. They've added some new stock and are looking to add even more vegetarian/vegan/gluten free offerings. Now all they need is a cycling group to create a ride from the shop....... When I mentioned that to the owner, he said "that's exactly the demographic we are working to attract ...."

I ride past there twice a day on my commute on the days I get to ride. reading this, I am considering making the time to stop in briefly. I often see people hanging around on the sidewalk outside in the mornings- sometime walking their dogs, or dogless.

I remember hitting cars with snow balls off of the roof of that place as a kid. Ben Avon was like May Berry RFD LOL and i am not making fun of that,it was the best place to grow up in and still is,,a great family town with lots of woods around it.
