Just read an article in Squirrel Hill magazine that there will be construction of a new trail starting at Murray and Forward and going into the Run at Saline Street.Article doesn't give any timeline when this project will be starting and/or when it will be complete???Does anyone know a time table for this project???A number of people were asking me and I have no idea !! I thought someone might know,(especially if you live in Squirrel Hill or the Run in lower Greenfield. Thanks.

Bottom line, there's no set plan for this. It's a proposal that is being discussed.

Presently, I am hearing as soon as next year, to as long as a decade or decades, maybe never seeing it in our lifetime !! Wish the article could have given us more detail of when this project will be starting and be completed.Seems like everyone is clueless including this story writer in the Squirrel Hill magazine! SO #*%& FRUSTRATING!!

It has been discussed monthly at the Squirrel Hill Urban Coalition Bike/Ped committee. You could email Marshall Hershberg at hershberg13 at gmail.com to be put on the mailing list.
Bottom line is, there's no funding yet, but funding does come available from time to time. So it will probably happen eventually.

As with many civic projects, there's a lot to do before you can start moving dirt for a trail. You need to find a feasible routing, figure out what concerns nearby residents have and address those, figure out who owns the land and persuade them the trail is a good idea, get funding for engineering design, keep people informed about progress so you can find potential problems early (when it's easier to solve them), coordinate with other projects (in this case improvements at Murray/Forward/Pocussett), raise money for construction, and more.
If you want to be part of this, join the discussion at the SqHill bike-ped meetings, usually the second Thursday evening of the month, but probably cancelled in July.
The SqHill Mag article was written by a major proponent of the trail. He can't tell you when it will be constructed, because the initial steps haven't been completed. I assume the purpose of the article is to be sure that interested people become aware of the idea and make useful suggestions. It's still in discussion with the SqHill and Greenfield community organizations.
