Welcome!
What are you studying?
Hey guys,
This is actually my second post (my first was to report my bike stolen last week), but I wanted to officially introduce myself. I'm from California (San Francisco Bay Area) and moved here to go to grad school at CMU. Started mountain biking 3-4 years ago around Mt. Tam and the coastal mountains, got into road biking during my undergrad when I was commuting, eventually ending up with a fixed gear, and did my first traditional century ride this past summer on a 20+ yr-old Trek 400.
I brought my '07 Rockhopper out here that got stolen last week, so yesterday I picked up an old Trek 800 Antelope that was converted to a cyclocross/commuter. So that's what I'm riding out here, both to school, and possibly some antics at Frick park if I ever get any free time.
Nice to meet you all.
Joey

Sorry about your bike. You should check out the CMU Cycling Club - www.cmucycling.org
Getting my Master's in Human-Computer Interaction. It's very very intense. Wish I had more time to ride other than commuting.
Human-Computer Interaction sounds very interesting. What on earth does that entail?
Learning where to put the buttons on the computer programs, or at least learning how to learn where to put the buttons on the computer programs.

When using a computer, one frequently feels a desire to push one's boot through the screen.
Human-Computer Interaction is the study of ways to reduce that urge.

to quote my professor's powerpoint slide:
"'a discipline concerned with the design, evaluation, and implementation of interactive computing systems for human use and with the study of major phenomena surrounding them.' ACM SIGCHI Curriculum Development Group Report, 1992
'…is the study of interaction between people (users) and computers. It is often regarded as the intersection of computer science, behavioral sciences, design and several other fields of study.'

The program has a mix of backgrounds from design, computer science, and psychology. This first semester is mostly design research so far.
when can we expect clippy 2.0?
"Hi! You appear to be trolling a message board! Would you like me to help compose a suitably snarky comment?"
I <3 Clippy.
