Stu is the guru of North Hills bike commuting, but there are a ton of us out here.

How do you define northern Allegheny County (for the purposes of your story?)

We cover Northern Allegheny as far south as Ross Township... also cover southern butler if you know riders coming from Cranberry.

Quite willing to talk to anyone. I live just off of Perrymont Road, and use any of several ways to get in and out of the city. I almost never drive to work; job is in heart of Downtown. Occasionally (1 day in 10) I motorcycle, but most often it's a bike-in/bus-home trip. I biked home on Saturday, riding straight up Federal Street (try it sometime!). Most often I use the river trail to Millvale then go up Babcock, but I have at least five different paths, depending on my mood, the bike I'm riding, what I'm carrying, how much of a hurry I'm in, the weather, how dark it is, and how much it rained in the last 24 hours. (I have to hop a stream at one point.)

I think I am out of your area, but commute in from Emsworth.

There's a guy that uses the Bike Center downtown that rides in regularly from McCandless. I'll try to remember to copy this and post the original message and post it where he might see it.

I am in Shaler. My commuting by bike has drastically reduced recently though.

There's a Bike Center Downtown?

@buffalo - the bike center is something of a misnomer. It's the safe, secure bike parking facility located across from Bossa Nova on Seventh Street. A $125 annual lease gets you access to one of two storage containers that have been retrofitted to provide vertical bike racks. 13 slots in each container. There are no other real "facilities" offered, although there is some pretty nice public bike parkign located on the back side of the containers, out of the public view. Trek Development, (not the bike folks) put the facility in with some public assistance a few years back, when they rehabbed the building next door.

There are several people who commute from the city to our office in Indiana Twp. (right next to Hartwood Acres park) -- not sure if that's north enough for you, and it's opposite most commuting traffic, but we'd be willing to help out for sure.
